A Workflow for Lipid Nanoparticle (LNP) Formulation Optimization using Designed Mixture-Process Experiments and Self-Validated Ensemble Models (SVEM)

Andrew T. Karl et al.

Summary: We propose a Quality by Design approach for optimizing lipid nanoparticle formulations, offering scientists an accessible workflow. This approach addresses the constraint of molar ratios in these studies and utilizes statistical frameworks and design methods to overcome traditional challenges in experiment design and analysis. The workflow generates candidate optimal formulations and provides graphical summaries for simplified result interpretation.

Determination of Thymol in Commercial Formulation, Essential Oils, Traditional, and Ultrasound-Based Extracts of Thymus vulgaris and Origanum vulgare Using a Greener HPTLC Approach

Ahmed I. Foudah et al.

Summary: In this study, a normal-phase high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) method was developed and validated for determining thymol in commercial formulations, essential oils, traditional extracts (TE), and ultrasound-based extracts (UBE) of Thymus vulgaris and Origanum vulgare. The proposed analytical approach was simple, quick, inexpensive, accurate, precise, robust, sensitive, and greener.

Self-validated ensemble models for design of experiments

Trent Lemkus et al.

Summary: The study introduces a novel framework called Self-Validated Ensemble Modeling (SVEM), which improves the performance of predictive models from experimental data by using a weighted approach with training and validation sets. Through simulations and case studies, it is shown that SVEM generally produces models with better prediction performance compared to one-shot model selection methods.

Highly effective pre-concentration of thymol and carvacrol using nano-sized magnetic molecularly imprinted polymer based on experimental design optimization and their trace determination in summer savoury, Origanum majorana and Origanum vulgare extracts

Elahe Kasiri et al.

Summary: A valid and effective method was developed in this study for the assessment of thymol and carvacrol in pharmaceutical syrups, utilizing a combination of magnetic molecular imprinted polymer dispersive solid phase microextraction and high performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet techniques. The method showed high sorption capacities, quick separation, and good stability for thymol and carvacrol extraction.

Voltammetric Determination of Isopropylmethylphenols in Herbal Spices

Magdalena Jakubczyk et al.

Summary: A simple, rapid, and sensitive method using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) has been developed to determine the total content of thymol and carvacrol in herbal spices. The method showed a wide linear response range and low detection limits, with results in good agreement with standard chromatographic methods. This electrochemical procedure is the first of its kind for these compounds in these environmental and electrode materials.

Comprehensive phytochemical analysis and sedative-hypnotic activity of two Acanthopanax species leaves

Yunhe Liu et al.

Summary: The study on Acanthopanax senticosus leaves and Acanthopanax sessiliflorus leaves revealed their rich phytochemical composition and similar pharmacological activities. Both leaves exhibited sedative-hypnotic effects and may mediate beneficial bioactivity through serotonin and GABA. Some specific chemical markers could be potential active compounds and quality markers for the future development and utilization of the leaves.
