Identification and Characterization of the Isomeric Impurity of the Fungicide Cyazofamid

Jyoti Kannoujia et al.

Summary: Identification and characterization of impurities in agrochemicals are crucial for their efficacy and public health safety. In this study, we identified and characterized an impurity, 5-chloro-2-cyano-N,N-dimethyl-4-p-tolylimidazole-1-sulfonamide (2), in the fungicide cyazofamid. HPLC analysis suggested that 2 is formed during the reaction of substituted imidazole (1) with N,N-dimethylsulfamoyl chloride. Preparative HPLC isolation and characterization by various techniques confirmed that 2 is an isomer of cyazofamid with the N,N-dimethyl sulfonamide group positioned on the other nitrogen of imidazole near the chloride group. Computational studies further supported the formation of 2 and ruled out other possible isomeric structures.

Amino-functional metal-organic framework as a general applicable adsorbent for simultaneous enrichment of nine neonicotinoids

Wen Ma et al.

Summary: Four functional metal-organic frameworks were synthesized and used as adsorbents for simultaneous enrichment of nine neonicotinoids. Among them, amino-functional MIL-101-NH2 showed the best performance due to high surface area and specific interaction with analytes. A simple and efficient method was developed for trace analysis of neonicotinoids in environmental samples.

Exposure to neonicotinoid insecticides and their characteristic metabolites: Association with human liver cancer

Hua Zhang et al.

Summary: This study examines the association between exposure to neonicotinoid insecticides (NEOs) and liver disease. The results show that NEOs are frequently detected in the blood samples of individuals, with higher concentrations found in females. Additionally, the concentrations of NEOs and their metabolites are positively correlated with the prevalence of liver cancer. These findings suggest that exposure to NEOs may increase the odds of developing liver cancer.

A nationwide study of occurrence and exposure assessment of neonicotinoid insecticides and their metabolites in drinking water of China

Gaga Mahai et al.

Summary: This study investigated the contamination status of neonicotinoid insecticides (NNIs) and their metabolites in drinking water across China, finding variations in concentrations and patterns of NNIs in different regions, mainly influenced by differences in crop types and pesticide usage. Some drinking water samples exceeded the acceptable value recommended by the European Union, posing potential human health risks.

Selected transformation products of neonicotinoid insecticides (other than imidacloprid) in drinking water

Gaga Mahai et al.

Summary: A study found multiple metabolites of neonicotinoid insecticides (NNIs) in drinking water in mainland China and Hong Kong, with urea and desnitro/decyano metabolites being the main types. Metabolite levels were significantly higher in urban areas compared to nonurban areas, with higher metabolite levels in the south possibly due to lower soil pH, higher temperatures, and greater light intensities.
