Vibro-acoustic analysis of the sound transmission through aerospace composite structures

Hicham Kaidouchi et al.

Summary: An in-plane honeycomb sandwich structure used in aerospace applications was modeled and analyzed using finite element analysis software to study its structural-acoustic performances. Modal and steady state analyses were conducted to investigate the vibro-acoustic and sound transmission characteristics of the sandwich panel. Two different structural acoustic designs were performed, and it was found that glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) cores with fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) facing materials showed the best acoustic performances.

A quasi-3D layer-wise finite element model for vibroacoustic analysis of finite sandwich plates with frequency-dependent viscoelastic core

Bo Wang et al.

Summary: This article presents a quasi-3D layer-wise finite element approach to investigate the vibroacoustic characteristics of finite constrained layer damping (CLD) plates with a viscoelastic material (VEM) core. The frequency-dependent properties of the VEM core are integrated into the kinematic governing equation. The sound transmission loss (STL) behavior under oblique plane sound wave excitation is studied in narrow frequency bands, and the results show that the STL values of the two CLD plates configurations are significantly increased in resonance frequency regions. The symmetric configuration is found to have better sound insulation performance.

Vibroacoustic performance assessment of aircraft panels in low, mid and high frequency regimes

B. Balakrishnan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the vibroacoustic characteristics of aircraft panels made of aluminum, composites, and fiber metal laminates. Numerical simulations show that aluminum and fiber metal laminates have good acoustic characteristics across different frequency regimes, with composites performing better in the mid-frequency range. An optimization approach for aircraft panels is also presented in the study.

Formulation and validation of the shift cell technique for acoustic applications of poro-elastic materials described by the Biot theory

Dario Magliacano et al.

Summary: Incorporating vibroacoustic treatments using poro-elastic media with periodic inclusions at early stages of product development is an effective strategy for achieving lightweight sound packages. This approach can have significant applications in transportation, energy, and civil engineering fields. The study successfully validates the use of the shift cell operator approach for investigating dispersion characteristics in periodic poro-elastic media.
