2D and 3D soil finite/infinite element models: modelling, comparison and application in vehicle-track dynamic interaction

Zheng Li et al.

Summary: In this study, 2D and 3D vehicle-track-soil models are developed in a coupled manner. The IE method is introduced to simulate the soil far-field region, and case studies demonstrate the advantages of this model in improving computational efficiency and revealing the influence of vehicle speed on system dynamic performance.

Analytical forecasting of long-term railway track settlement

C. Charoenwong et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel numerical approach to predict the irregular evolution of railway tracks. The model combines empirical settlement laws with finite element theory to consider train-track interaction and track-soil material behavior. The model is validated and used to demonstrate the importance of frequent geometry updates in accurate predictions. Additionally, a parametric study shows the effect of track subgrade material properties on track settlement.

A method for vehicle-track-soil interaction analysis considering soil deformation

Zheng Li et al.

Summary: This work proposes an engineering practical method to characterize the mapping relationship between soil deformation and system performance. The method incorporates static and dynamic analysis and utilizes wavelet transform for signal observation. It also discusses the influence of soil deformation on dynamic mapping from both time and frequency domains.

The effect of rolling stock characteristics on differential railway track settlement: An engineering-economic model

C. Charoenwong et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effects of increasing train speeds, additional passenger movements, and additional freight movements on an existing railway line using a novel combined engineering-economic approach. The study shows that higher speeds result in higher dynamic forces and faster deterioration of track geometry, increasing marginal costs. Additional movements, especially for freight, also increase the rate of track degradation and marginal costs.

A unified analysis framework of static and dynamic structural reliabilities based on direct probability integral method

Guohai Chen et al.

Summary: This study establishes a unified framework for reliability analysis of both static and dynamic structures based on the direct probability integral method (DPIM). By decoupling the physical mapping of structures and probability density integral equations (PDIE), the DPIM is able to obtain the probability density function (PDF) of performance functions. Two approaches are proposed to overcome the difficulty of evaluating first passage dynamic reliability. The established framework shows desired efficiency and accuracy for unified reliability analysis.
