A framework for conditional simulation of nonstationary non-Gaussian random field and multivariate processes

H. P. Hong et al.

Summary: This study proposes a conditional simulation framework for nonstationary/nonhomogeneous non-Gaussian/Gaussian field and multivariate processes. The framework consists of three stages, utilizing efficient unconditional simulation algorithms and the reuse of unconditional samples in conditional simulation to improve efficiency. The conditional samples match the conditional mean and conditional variance-covariance.

A hierarchical Bayesian framework embedded with an improved orthogonal series expansion for Gaussian processes and fields identification

Menghao Ping et al.

Summary: A new hierarchical Bayesian framework (HBM) is proposed for identifying Gaussian processes or fields. An improved orthogonal series expansion (iOSE) is embedded into the framework to simulate the Gaussian process or field through correlated Gaussian variables. Hyper parameters are identified as the mean value and standard deviation vectors of these Gaussian variables, as well as the parameters in the autocorrelation function (ACF) of the Gaussian process or field. Studies on two dynamic examples confirm the effectiveness of the proposed framework.

Stochastic harmonic function-based traffic load simulation method for fatigue damage assessment of concrete bridges

Ruofan Gao et al.

Summary: A novel simulation method based on the stochastic harmonic function (SHF) is proposed to represent the stochastic traffic load process and accurately evaluate the fatigue damage of concrete bridges under traffic loading. The compound Poisson process and Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) method are utilized in the simulation of the traffic load. The feasibility and advantages of the proposed SHF-based method are validated through a fatigue damage assessment of a concrete bridge in practical engineering.

Variability response functions for statically indeterminate structures

Mengyao Shen et al.

Summary: This paper studies the response variability of statically indeterminate beam structures caused by uncertain material properties modeled by random fields. By solving the governing equations of the statically indeterminate structure, the response bending moment along the length of the beam is expressed as a function of its random zero-moment location. Novel Variability Response Function-based integral expressions are proposed for the variance of the response bending moment, which have desirable attributes such as the capability to perform a full sensitivity analysis and establish realizable upper bounds of the response variability.

Imprecise random field analysis for non-linear concrete damage analysis

Mona M. Dannert et al.

Summary: This paper defines imprecise random fields by considering spatially varying material parameters with an interval-valued correlation length and discusses the effect of series truncation and resulting variance error. The study focuses on the propagation of imprecise random fields in the context of quasi brittle damage of a four-point bended concrete beam. It explores how correlation length values affect the p-box bounds and concludes that a pure vertex analysis of the correlation length intervals is sufficient for determining the p-box in this context.

Bayesian probabilistic propagation of imprecise probabilities with large epistemic uncertainty

Pengfei Wei et al.

Summary: Efficient propagation of imprecise probability models is achieved through the development of a new methodology framework named NIPI, focusing on the distributional probability-box model and the estimation of probabilistic moments of model responses. By integrating spatial correlation information revealed by the GPR model, NIPI estimations with high accuracy are derived, and numerical errors are treated as epistemic uncertainty.

Uncertainty Quantification of Random Fields Based on Spatially Sparse Data by Synthesizing Bayesian Compressive Sensing and Stochastic Harmonic Function

Jingran He et al.

Summary: Spatial variation is common in engineering practice and can be quantified using random fields. This paper discusses how to quantify spatial variation based on limited observation data and introduces the BCS-SHF scheme to address uncertainty due to hard-to-control factors. Numerical examples demonstrate the high accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method in reproducing target mean values and covariance functions.
