Medium-short-term prediction of polar motion combining the differencing between series with the differencing within series

Leyang Wang et al.

Summary: A new method called the B-W method is proposed to minimize the range of forecast errors by combining the forecasts of the X, Y, and Y-X series based on the mathematical relationship of Y-X. The method showed significant improvements in the forecasting accuracy compared to Bulletin-A, with an average improvement of 10.7% for the x-pole and 11.7% for the y-pole. Additionally, incorporating IGU data further improved the forecast accuracy at 1-10 days. The B-W method is regarded as superior to Bulletin-A in terms of overall stability and has potential practical applications.

Short-Term Polar Motion Forecast Based on the Holt-Winters Algorithm and Angular Momenta of Global Surficial Geophysical Fluids

Jiesi Luo et al.

Summary: In this study, a short-term polar motion forecast method based on Holt-Winters additive algorithm is proposed, which takes into account the variable free polar motion and irregular forced polar motion caused by changes in atmosphere, oceans, and land water. The results show that the proposed method can improve the accuracy of forecasts compared to traditional methods.

Earth orientation parameters prediction based on the hybrid SSA plus LS plus SVM model

Yuguo Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, a hybrid model combining singular spectrum analysis, least squares, and support vector machine is proposed to significantly improve the short- and long-term prediction accuracy of Earth orientation parameters. Experimental results show that the hybrid model achieves significant improvement in polar motion and length of day predictions at different prediction intervals.

Analysis and prediction of polar motion using MSSA method

Xin Jin et al.

Summary: Polar motion refers to the movement of the Earth's rotational axis relative to its crust, influenced by material exchange and mass redistribution. Using multi-channel singular spectrum analysis (MSSA), it was found that the amplitude of the Chandler wobbles has significantly decreased over the past 20 years, while the annual oscillation amplitude fluctuated between 60 and 120 mas with a long-term trend towards N56.79 degrees W.
