Additive manufacturing of hexagonal lattice structures: tensile tests and validation

Mustafa Okan Ture et al.

Summary: This paper designs and manufactures tensile test specimens with different hexagonal lattice structures using additive manufacturing. The mechanical behaviors of these specimens are obtained using a tensile testing machine and analyzed by finite element program. The influence of lattice shape and infill density on mechanical behavior is investigated, and the simulation results are validated through comparison with finite element analysis. The main objective of this paper is to study the tensile test properties of PLA test specimens with different hexagonal-shaped lattice structures and verify their finite element model. It is concluded that increasing hexagonal lattice size enhances ductility up to a certain degree, and the elastic modulus of specimens with 15% and 100% infill density is nearly the same in the lattice region.

Effect of process parameters on mechanical properties of additive manufactured SMP structures based on FDM

Bingfei Liu et al.

Summary: 4D printing, a new interdisciplinary research field combining advanced manufacturing, materials science, and mechanics, has attracted academic interest in recent years. In the study of additive manufacturing of Shape Memory Polymer (SMP) structures, tests were conducted to determine the thermodynamic properties of SMP and examine the effect of different parameters on the mechanical properties of SMP samples. The results showed that adjusting the structural parameters can effectively improve the tensile strength of SMP samples.

Effect of woven structure and aramid binder yarn on the flexural performance of carbon/aramid fiber hybrid three-dimensional woven composites

Yajun Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the flexural and impact performance of 3D woven textile-reinforced composites using different structures and binder yarns. The results show that the woven structure and yarn ratio have significant effects on the mechanical properties, and the introduction of aramid binder yarn can improve impact resistance but decrease flexural performance.

Influence of 3D Printing Parameters by FDM Method on the Mechanical Properties of Manufactured Parts

Jaroslaw Zubrzycki et al.

Summary: The manufacturing of machine parts with additive methods is significant in modern industry. The development of 3D printing technology has made it possible to produce parts quickly and inexpensively. However, different printing parameters can result in variations in mechanical properties, particularly strength. This paper presents a study on the impact of 3D printing parameters on the strength of manufactured parts.

Xin Pan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the coupling effect of multiple variables on fracture parameters and proposed a three-point bending specimen with an inclined crack for mixed-mode fracture research. The fracture parameters were obtained through experiments and finite element analysis, showing that the generalized maximum tangential strain energy density factor criterion considering T-stress can better predict the mixed-mode fracture toughness.
