Managing mechanical and electrical properties of nanostructured Cu-Fe composite by aging treatment

Y. Z. Tian et al.

Summary: In this study, nanostructured Cu-10Fe composites were prepared by heavy cold rolling, and the microstructure evolution and properties of the composites during aging were systematically studied. It was found that the strength and ductility of the composites changed monotonically with increasing aging temperature, while the electrical conductivity initially increased and then decreased. The mechanisms for the superior mechanical and electrical properties were discussed by quantifying the contributions of different microstructural constituents.

Microstructure and mechanical properties of multi-scale ?-Fe reinforced Cu-Fe composite produced by vacuum suction casting

Yanjun Ding et al.

Summary: Cu-10Fe composites were produced by vacuum suction casting and traditional vacuum mold casting, and the evolution of their microstructure and properties during cold rolling and aging processes was analyzed. The suction-casted composite exhibited improved mechanical properties compared to the traditional mold-casted composite, with a microhardness of 146 HV, tensile strength of 526 MPa, and elongation of 23.7%. The higher softening temperature of the suction-casted composite (520 degrees C) was attributed to the refinement of the Cu matrix and the formation of multi-scale alpha-Fe particles through solute trapping during vacuum suction casting. The yield strength of the composites was mainly influenced by Orowan strengthening, refinement strengthening, and dislocations strengthening, contributing 31.1%, 25.8%, and 24.1%, respectively.

Recrystallization behavior and mechanical properties of AZ31B alloy during the hot-rolling process

Chenhui Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the microstructural characteristics, dynamic recrystallization, and mechanical properties of hot-rolled AZ31B. The results indicate that different recrystallization mechanisms are responsible for the microstructural evolution during rolling deformation. The mechanisms of twin-induced nucleation and stress-induced grain boundary migration dominate the recrystallization process, leading to grain refinement and an excellent strength-ductility balance in the specimens with a rolling reduction of 75%.

Enhanced softening resistance and mechanical properties of Cu-Ni-Sn alloy with Al, Zn and Si micro-alloying

Chengjun Guo et al.

Summary: Microalloying with Al, Zn, and Si was investigated for its effects on the microstructure, physical properties, and softening resistance of Cu-Ni-Sn alloy. The results showed that the addition of Al, Zn, and Si effectively suppressed the segregation of the alloy, resulting in increased hardness and softening temperature. The presence of Al and Zn solute atoms and the formation of Ni31Si12 phase inhibited discontinuous precipitation formation and dislocation movement, leading to excellent mechanical properties and softening resistance in the alloy.

The evolution of microstructure and properties of a Cu-Ti-Cr-Mg-Si alloy with high strength during the multi-stage thermomechanical treatment

Xu Wang et al.

Summary: A Cu-Ti-Cr-Mg-Si alloy with super-high strength and high electrical conductivity was designed, and the multi-stage thermomechanical treatment significantly improved its mechanical and electrical properties. The high strength of the alloy was attributed to precipitation strengthening, sub-structure strengthening, solid solution strengthening, and work hardening, while the electrical conductivity increased during aging due to the decomposition of supersaturated solid solution. Compared with direct aging treatment, the multi-stage thermomechanical treatment with stepped temperature-reduction further enhanced the alloy's mechanical and electrical properties.
