Investigation on the microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of partially recrystallized Fe-27Mn-10Al-1.4C steel

Guofeng Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, Fe-Mn-Al-C high-manganese steels with excellent strength and ductility were developed, and a bimodal microstructure was formed through cold rolling and annealing treatment. The synergistic effect between recrystallization-induced softening and kappa-carbide precipitation resulted in superior mechanical properties of the steel specimens.

A high-entropy alloy with dislocation-precipitate skeleton for ultrastrength and ductility

Yongkun Mu et al.

Summary: In this study, a combination of high-density dislocation structures and high-volume-fraction ductile nano-precipitates was successfully achieved in a high-entropy alloy using a three-dimensional printing technique. The resulting structure, known as the dislocation-precipitate skeleton architecture, demonstrated ultra-high tensile strength and significant ductility, which were attributed to the synergistic strengthening of dislocation-precipitation and the evolution of multiple stacking fault structures.

Ultrahigh strength-high ductility 1 GPa low density austenitic steel with ordered precipitation strengthening phase and dynamic slip band refinement

L. L. Wei et al.

Summary: This article investigates the mechanical behavior of Fe-27Mn-9Al-1C austenitic steel microalloyed with Nb, specifically focusing on its work hardening behavior and plasticity mechanisms. The study reveals that pronounced planar dislocation slip occurs during plastic deformation, and the shearing of precipitates and refinement of slip bands contribute to strain hardening of the steel. Annealing twin boundaries act as dislocation sources, promoting further subdivision of slip bands and suppressing strain localization.

Control of dislocation density maximizing precipitation strengthening effect

C. Xu et al.

Summary: Nanoprecipitation strengthening is an ideal method to enhance the strength of structural metals without sacrificing ductility. By controlling dislocation density, researchers have successfully increased the yield strength without significant loss in ductility.

JMAK model applied on the k-carbide precipitation in FeMnAlC steels

Carlo Mapelli et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the precipitation kinetics of k-carbide in lightweight steel alloys with high concentrations of Mn and Al through various isothermal treatments, discussing its role in strengthening the steel grades and its relationship with steel composition. The study utilizes isothermal experiments with different temperatures and holding times, applying the JMAK model to fit the observed transformations and noting a correlation between steel composition and activation energy for the transformation.

Multiphase precipitation and its strengthening mechanism in a V-containing austenite-based low density steel

Mingxiang Liu et al.

Summary: Utilizing a two-step heat treatment process with multiple precipitates significantly enhances the strength and strain hardening rate of austenite-based low density steel. The combination of shearing and Orowan mechanisms from various types of precipitates contributes to the high strength and strain hardening ability of the steel. Fine planar slip bands and dispersive dislocation localization further strengthen the material.

The effect of rolling and subsequent aging on microstructures and tensile properties of a Fe-Mn-Al-C austenitic steel

Zhuang Li et al.

Summary: After rolling, the strength of the steel significantly increases, while the ductility decreases primarily due to an increased dislocation density. The strength gradually increases with decreasing rolling reduction, but the size and number of relatively large kappa-carbides decrease.
