Influence of heat treatment on H2S gas sensing features of NiO thin films deposited via thermal evaporation technique

Davoud Dastan et al.

Summary: In this study, NiO thin films were prepared on Ni foil using thermal evaporation method to investigate their structural, morphological and H2S gas sensing properties. XRD analysis revealed a FCC phase with preferred (111) and (200) Bragg reflections. Increasing the oxidation temperature led to an increase in crystallite size and size of nanoclusters on the film surface. EDS patterns showed an increase in O peak intensity with increasing oxidation temperature, indicating enhanced oxygen content. Raman spectrum revealed Ni-O vibrations in the thin films. Gas sensing results demonstrated sensitivity to 20 ppm H2S at 700 degrees C and no significant change in response for higher concentrations. The deposition temperature influenced the response of the sensors.

Synthesis of CuO thin films by a direct current reactive sputtering process for CO gas sensing application

Debashrita Mahana et al.

Summary: A DC magnetron reactive sputtering method was used to deposit CuO thin films for CO gas sensing. The phase formation of copper oxide was investigated by varying the O-2 flow rate, and it was found that Cu2O transformed into CuO through Cu4O3. The film morphology showed a granular structure, and the grain size increased with the O-2 partial flow. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirmed the phase evolution. The CO sensing response of the CuO film reached 127% at 375℃ towards 91 ppm concentration with a response/recovery time of 161 s/99 s.

Synthesis, characterizations, and hydrogen sulfide gas sensing application of BiOx (x 1/4 1, 1.5) nanostructures

Krishna D. Bhalerao et al.

Summary: To tackle air pollution, it is necessary to develop high-response hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas sensors. Bismuth oxide nanostructured material was prepared using a hydrothermal chemical route and characterized using various techniques. The gas sensor device based on this material showed a remarkable response of 22-92% to H2S gas, with the highest response of 92% observed at 100 ppm concentration and 250 degrees C. The sensor demonstrated rapid response and recovery times of 511 and 492 s, respectively, emphasizing its potential as a promising candidate for high-response H2S sensing.

Abderrahim Moumen et al.

Summary: This review discusses the synthesis of p-type metal-oxide (p-type MOX) semiconductor thin films for chemical-sensing applications, focusing on CuO, NiO, Co3O4, and Cr2O3. Various techniques for growing p-MOX thin films are reviewed, including physical vapor deposition (PVD) and chemical vapor deposition (CVD). The physicochemical properties, sensing mechanism, and sensing characteristics of the mentioned thin films are discussed. Strategies for improving the sensing capabilities of p-type MOX thin films are also presented.

Comparative study on surface states and CO gas sensing characteristics of CuO thin films synthesised by vacuum evaporation and sputtering processes

Debashrita Mahana et al.

Summary: CuO thin films were synthesized by thermal oxidation of Cu films deposited using vacuum evaporation and sputtering processes. The sputtered CuO film showed higher sensing response towards CO gas compared to the evaporated film, which can be attributed to smaller crystallite size, finer granular surface morphology, and higher surface presence of Cu2+ ions.

Effect of working pressure and post-annealing on structural, optical and electrical properties of p-type NiO thin films produced by RF magnetron sputtering technique

Fatih Senaslan et al.

Summary: Deposition of nickel oxide (NiO) films on glass and silicon substrates using radio-frequency (RF) sputtering at various working pressures resulted in improved crystal quality and increased crystal size with lower pressures. The annealed NiO films exhibited higher transmittance and increased band gap with decreasing working pressure. Electrical properties were affected by crystallinity and lattice defects, with all annealed films showing p-type conductivity. The lowest resistivity was achieved from the film deposited at 5 mTorr.
