Lightweight, ultrastrong and high thermal-stable eutectic high-entropy alloys for elevated-temperature applications

Mingliang Wang et al.

Summary: Researchers proposed a strategy to design lightweight, strong, and high thermal-stable eutectic high-entropy alloys (EHEAs) by introducing an extremely stable Heusler-type ordered phase (L21 phase) containing a high-content of low-density elements and constructing a low lattice misfit eutectic-phase interface, which can lead to generate ultrafine and stable lamellar structures and high-density of coherent nanoprecipitates.

Novel laser cladding FeCoNiCrNb0.5Mox high-entropy alloy coatings with excellent corrosion resistance

Zijun Zhou et al.

Summary: Novel FeCoNiCrNb0.5Mox (x = 0.00, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, 1.00) high-entropy alloy coatings were prepared on 42CrMo steel by laser cladding to enhance the surface corrosion resistance of marine equipment. The coatings were found to consist of FCC phase and Laves phase, with an increase in Mo content promoting the formation of the Laves phase. The addition of Mo improved corrosion resistance by facilitating the formation of the Laves phase, with the FeCoNiCrNb0.5Mo0.75 coating showing the best performance.

Synergistic effect of Nb and Mo alloying on the microstructure and mechanical properties of CoCrFeNi high entropy alloy

Rui Fan et al.

Summary: Through alloying with Nb and Mo, a new type of Laves phase with hexagonal close-packed structure was formed, and a fine lamellar structure Laves phase was obtained by adjusting the ratio of Nb and Mo, leading to enhanced strength and ductility of the CoCrFeNi alloy system.

High-performance magnesium alloy with multi-element synergistic strengthening: Design, microstructure, and tensile properties

Xiong Zhou et al.

Summary: This study designed multi-element synergistic strengthening Mg alloys inspired by the concept of high entropy alloys, and found the optimal composition of Mg-1.4Sn-0.93Zn-0.83Ca-0.67Mn-0.39Al (AXMZT-5), which exhibits high strength and elongation. The fine-grained structure, residual dislocations, and uniformly distributed nanoparticles were identified as contributing factors to the high yield strength of the alloy.

Significance of grain refinement on micro-mechanical properties and structures of additively-manufactured CoCrFeNi high-entropy alloy

Wenrui Zhao et al.

Summary: The study highlights the significance of grain refinement achieved through high-pressure torsion on the mechanical properties and structure of AM CoCrFeNi HEA, demonstrating high strain hardening capability and increased plasticity in the nanostructured HEA, with structural evolution showing decreasing crystallite size, increasing microstrain, and expanding lattice parameter. This provides advantages of nanostructuring for current developments in the AM technology of HEAs.
