Effect of Mn doping on structural, optical and magnetic properties of ZnO films fabricated by sol-gel spin coating method

Zafer Gultekin et al.

Summary: Undoped and Mn-doped ZnO thin films were fabricated using sol-gel spin coating method, and their structural, optical, magnetic, and magnetoresistance properties were investigated as a function of Mn doping ratio. XRD patterns showed a single-phase wurtzite structure for all studied films. SEM images revealed improved film homogeneity, continuity, and absence of pinholes with increasing Mn content. Optical characterizations indicated high transmittance above 85% in the visible region and absorbance spectra in the 300-400 nm range. Increasing Mn content redshifted the optical energy band edges, likely due to increased carrier concentration. The refractive index and dielectric constant were also affected by Mn content. Magnetic measurements showed a transition from diamagnetic to ferromagnetic behavior with increasing Mn content, and magnetoresistance measurements supported the magnetic behavior of the films.

Synthesis, characterization and optoelectronic application of Bi2Se3 thin film prepared by thermal evaporation technique

Nashreen F. Patel et al.

Summary: In recent years, semiconducting transition metal chalcogenides (TMCs) have shown promising potential for optoelectronic applications due to their strong light absorption across a wide spectrum. Photodetectors based on layered TMCs have garnered significant attention as a substitute for silicon-based materials. In this study, a large area photodetector based on thermally evaporated Bi2Se3 thin film for visible light detection was fabricated. The thin film had a thickness of 5000 angstroms and exhibited a highly crystalline structure with a prominent orientation of (006). The photodetector demonstrated excellent light sensitivity in a broad spectral range from 485 to 670 nm, achieving a photocurrent as high as 50.96 mu A and a photo responsivity of 2.12 mA/W under white light with a power intensity of 100 mW/cm2. Moreover, the photodetector exhibited excellent stability towards pulse photoresponse during numerous cycles of light pulse, thanks to the stable nature of the Bi2Se3 thin film. This study presents the development of Bi2Se3 thin film as a light harvesting material for future optoelectronic devices, contributing to pollution-free energy generation through sunlight utilization.
