Enhanced electrical properties of Cr2O3 addition NBT-based high-temperature piezoelectric ceramics

Yanyan Zhang et al.

Summary: Due to industrial and technological developments, there is an increasing demand for piezoelectric ceramics that can function at temperatures of 500 degrees C or higher. This study investigated the effects of different additions of Cr2O3 on the structural and electrical properties of Ca-0.05(Na0.5Bi0.5)(0.95)Bi4Ti4O15 ceramics. The CNBT-Cr20 ceramic exhibited excellent properties with a high Curie temperature, a high piezoelectric coefficient, and a high resistivity at 500 degrees C, demonstrating its potential for applications at high temperatures.

Revealing the long-term oxidation and carburization mechanism of 310S SS and Alloy 800H exposed to supercritical carbon dioxide

Xianglong Guo et al.

Summary: The oxidation/carburization behavior and failure mechanism of 310S stainless steel and Alloy 800H exposed to supercritical carbon dioxide at high temperature and pressure were investigated. Both materials followed the parabolic oxidation law, but displayed different oxidation products and carburization behaviors. Alloy 800H experienced oxide spallation after 2000 hours, leading to a decrease in weight gain compared to 310S SS at 3000 hours. The differences in carburization mechanisms and oxide film stability contribute to the distinct behaviors observed between the two materials.

Carbon foams derived from emulsion-templated porous polymeric composites for electromagnetic interference shielding

Ruobing Tang et al.

Summary: A series of carbon foams (CFs) were fabricated from emulsion-templated porous polymeric composites, which showed higher robustness, more hydrophobic surface, and larger specific surface area. The electrical conductivity and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness were greatly enhanced when carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and magnetic Ni@CNTs were simultaneously employed. These carbon foams can be perfect substitutes for commercial EMI shielding materials in the aerospace and wireless telecommunication fields.

Intense Raman D Band without Disorder in Flattened Carbon Nanotubes

Emmanuel Picheau et al.

Summary: Above a critical diameter, carbon nanotubes collapse into flattened forms, leading to unique Raman spectra changes. The presence of edge cavities and curvature changes near the edges activate a D band despite overall continuity in the structure. The differing perspectives of chemists and physicists on defects in carbon structures may lead to confusion for researchers in nanotechnologies.

Crossover magnetoresistance in non-transferred synthesized graphdiyne film

Huifang Kang et al.

Summary: This study developed a modified non-transferred graphdiyne film synthesis method and investigated its magnetoresistance effect. A temperature-dependent crossover between positive and negative magnetoresistance was observed in the graphdiyne film, with mechanisms involving the magnetic polaron model and weak localization.

Impact of epitaxial strain on crystal field splitting of α-Cr2O3(0001) thin films quantified by X-ray photoemission spectroscopy

Pamella Vasconcelos Borges Pinho et al.

Summary: The influence of epitaxial strain on the electronic structure of alpha-Cr2O3(0001) thin films is investigated through X-ray photoemission spectroscopy and crystal field multiplet calculations. In-plane lattice strain distorts the CrO6 octahedron and splits the 3d orbital triplet t(2g) into a(1) + e orbitals. Understanding these crystal field variations is crucial for tuning the physical properties of alpha-Cr2O3 thin films.

Effects of nano-SiO2 coated multi-walled carbon nanotubes on mechanical properties of cement-based composites

Shaojie Li et al.

Summary: The interfacial microstructure and interactions significantly impact the mechanical properties of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) reinforced cement-based composites. By preparing SiO2/MWCNTs nanocomposites using PVP as a surfactant without oxidation treatment on MWCNTs, the adhesion of MWCNTs-cement composites was improved, leading to enhanced flexural strengths of cement mortars. The addition of SiO2/MWCNTs effectively increased the C-S-H gel content at the interface between MWCNTs and cement matrix, resulting in the significant enhancement of mechanical properties.

Distinct beneficial effect of Sn on the corrosion resistance of Cr-Mo low alloy steel

Meihui Sun et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the addition of Sn improves the corrosion resistance of Cr-Mo low alloy steel mainly by influencing microstructural transformation, leading to enhanced protection and stability of the rust layer. The synergistic effect of Sn, Cr, and Mo also provides ion selectivity to the inner rust layer, preventing Cl- penetration and inhibiting localized corrosion of the steel.
