A multicenter evaluation on the impact of non-therapeutic transfer in rural trauma

Abdulwahab Muhammad Bello et al.

Summary: The origin and role of clay coatings in inhibiting quartz cementation have been studied, while the role of illite coatings in porosity preservation has been neglected. This study investigates the occurrence and coverage of illite coatings and their role in inhibiting quartz overgrowth in a sandstone reservoir. The results show that both tangential and radial illite coatings effectively arrest quartz cementation, with coverage depending on grain size.

Depositional and diagenetic controls on porosity evolution in sandstone reservoirs of the Stuttgart Formation (North German Basin)

Sebastian Niegel et al.

Summary: The Mesozoic succession in the North German Basin contains permeable sandstones that are used for geothermal heat production. The sandstones have high permeability due to undercompacted grain fabrics, low abundance of authigenic minerals, and large secondary porosity volumes. Petrographic methods were used to study the diagenesis of sandstones, and four diagenetic pathways were identified. The knowledge of these pathways will help improve predictions of Mesozoic hydrothermal reservoirs.

Impact of magmatic intrusion on diagenesis of shallow marine sandstones: An example from Qasim Formation, Northwest Saudi Arabia

Abdulwahab Muhammad Bello et al.

Summary: Igneous intrusions are common in sedimentary basins and can significantly affect the diagenesis and reservoir quality of sandstones. This study investigated the role of magmatic intrusion on the diagenesis and reservoir quality of the Qasim sandstones using various analytical methods. The results indicate that reservoir porosity is influenced by depositional characteristics, diagenetic alterations, and magmatic intrusions.

Role of depositional and diagenetic controls on reservoir quality of complex heterogenous tidal sandstone reservoirs: An example from the Lower Goru formation, Middle Indus Basin, Southwest Pakistan

Muhammad Asif Khan et al.

Summary: An integrated approach was used to analyze the role of depositional and diagenetic controls on reservoir quality in the Lower Goru Formation in Pakistan's Middle Indus Basin. It was found that high permeability and high porosity reservoirs are associated with well-sorted and medium-grained sandstones, while chlorite coating and quartz cementation are the major controlling factors. This study provides valuable insights for exploration and field development planning in stratigraphic traps.

Impact of Grain-Coating Clays on Porosity Preservation in Paleocene Turbidite Channel Sandstones: Nelson Oil Field, UK Central North Sea

Abdulwahab Muhammad Bello et al.

Summary: This study investigates the depositional characteristics, grain-coating clays, and diagenesis in controlling the reservoir quality evolution of turbidite-channel sandstones in the Forties Sandstone Member. The results demonstrate the impact of grain size and clay content on reservoir porosity, as well as the role of clay coating in preventing quartz cementation. The study also suggests the potential of the Forties Sandstone Member for CO2 storage, but highlights the need for experimental research to maintain borehole integrity in the face of dissolution of chemically unstable minerals.

Unravelling reservoir quality heterogeneity in mixed siliciclastic-carbonate deposits: An example from Miocene Red Sea rift, NW Saudi Arabia

Arif Hussain et al.

Summary: This study investigates the stratigraphic record and reservoir quality of mixed siliciclastic-carbonate deposits in the Red Sea rift basins. The findings suggest that these deposits have the potential to serve as good reservoirs in certain areas, and their permeability and porosity are influenced by textural and diagenetic differences. The study highlights the importance of understanding the depositional architecture and controls on reservoir quality in order to identify potential stratigraphic traps in similar settings.

Role of diagenetic alterations on porosity evolution in the cretaceous (Albian-Aptian) Bima Sandstone, a case study from the Northern Benue Trough, NE Nigeria

Abdulwahab Muhammad Bello et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the diagenetic alterations and their impact on the porosity evolution of the Cretaceous Bima Sandstone in NE Nigeria. The results indicate that mechanical compaction and quartz cementation have significantly modified the porosity, while primary depositional features have a smaller impact. The findings of this study are important for reducing exploration risks in fluvial reservoirs.

Experimental diagenesis using present-day submarine turbidite sands

Abdulwahab Muhammad Bello et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of chlorite and microquartz grain coatings on the overgrowth of quartz and feldspar. The experimental results showed that the volume of precursor chlorite plays a significant role in the formation of the coatings. The findings provide quantitative data for describing diagenetic changes in mesodiagenetic environments.

A stratigraphic example of the architecture and evolution of shallow water mouth bars

Grant Cole et al.

Summary: Understanding mouth bar morphodynamics is crucial for predicting sediment deposition, coastal geomorphic changes, and reservoir heterogeneity. Mouth bars grow through repeated cycles, with new accretion elements forming as the bar expands vertically and horizontally. The architecture and facies distributions of mouth bars are the result of intrinsic processes.

Sedimentological and diagenetic controls on the reservoir quality of marginal marine sandstones buried to moderate depths and temperatures: Brent Province, UK North Sea

Auwalu Y. Lawan et al.

Summary: A study of the Brent Group sandstones in the Thistle Field of the northern North Sea in the UK shows the contrasting roles of depositional and diagenetic processes on reservoir quality. Depth-controlled mechanical compaction and variable kaolinite growth are identified as the dominant reservoir quality controlling factors, with grain size playing a secondary role. Different depositional environments exhibit distinct diagenetic events, influencing the overall reservoir quality.

Role played by clay content in controlling reservoir quality of submarine fan system, Forties Sandstone Member, Central Graben, North Sea

Abdulwahab Muhammad Bello et al.

Summary: Proximal to distal fan changes in sediment grain size, clay content, and clay coatings are key factors affecting the reservoir quality of submarine fan sandstones. The study showed that depositional facies and diagenesis both impact reservoir quality, with proximal-fan amalgamated sandstones having better quality than distal-fan mud-prone facies. Pore-filling clays between 10 and 30% have a negative effect on reservoir quality, while detrital clays and authigenic clay coatings can inhibit quartz cement precipitation.
