Influence of Molecular Weight on the Nucleation and Growth of Different Crystal Forms in Isotactic Polypropylene: In Situ Synchrotron Microfocus X-Ray Scattering Combined with Fast-Scanning Chip Calorimetry Investigations

Ying Lu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the Mw-dependent formation of mesophase and a phase in iPP using in situ synchrotron microfocus X-ray scattering and portable fast-scanning chip calorimetry techniques. The results showed that a common crystallization line was shared by the mesophase of all three samples, while different crystallization lines were observed for the iPP samples. Additionally, the melting line of the mesophase overlapped with its crystallization line, unlike the a phase. The study also suggested the presence of an intermediate layer in the multistage crystallization model for the a phase.

Unexpected Role of Short Chains in Entangled Polymer Networks

Linlin Chu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of short-chain polymers on the entangled polymer network and found that they can significantly alter the network formed by long-chain polymers. The number of chain ends and the size of the short-chain polymer were also found to have clear effects on the network.

The Modulus of the Amorphous Phase of Semicrystalline Polymers

Malgorzata Polinska et al.

Summary: A universal method was proposed to determine the modulus of the interlamellar amorphous phase of semicrystalline polymers, using high-density polyethylene (HDPE) as an example. The study found a linear increase in the modulus of the interlamellar amorphous phase with increasing degree of crystallinity.
