Phosphaphenanthrene-Functionalized Benzoxazines Bearing Intramolecularly Hydrogen-Bonded Phenolic Hydroxyl: Synthesis, Structural Characterization, Polymerization Mechanism, and Property Investigation

Rui Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, two novel phosphaphenanthrene-functionalized benzoxazine monomers were synthesized and their structures were investigated. The ring-opening polymerization reactions of both monomers were studied and resulted in thermoset polymers with high thermal stability and low flammability. Computational calculations suggested the formation of intramolecular hydrogen bonds between the phenolic -OH and the P=O in the phosphaphenanthrene functionality, which was consistent with the experimental results. The combination of experimental and computational approaches provided molecular insights into intramolecular hydrogen bonding and its role in polymerization mechanisms, which can be applied in the design of high-performance thermoset polymers.

Caiying Bo et al.

Summary: The development of reprocessable and multi-stimulus-responsive shape memory benzoxazines and their carbon nanotubes composites on intelligence sensor is challenging. The cardanol-based benzoxazines exhibit multiple responses such as heat, microwave, light, and water, and the addition of dioxaborolanes enhances their tensile strength. Moreover, the shape memory cardanol-based benzoxazine/carbon nanotubes composite shows sensitivity to pressure and bending, as well as high stability and recoverability.

Multistructural Network Design Enables Polybenzoxazine to Achieve Low-Loss-Grade Super-High-Frequency Dielectric Properties and High Glass Transition Temperatures

Ming Zeng et al.

Summary: An original design strategy was introduced for the preparation of thermosetting resins with super-high-frequency low dielectric constant and low dielectric loss, as well as high glass transition temperature values. By incorporating a bulky group and reactive furan ring, multistructural networks were formed, resulting in lowered dielectric constants and maintained high T(g) values. The optimized copolymers exhibited low dielectric loss values under super-high-frequency communications.
