Dual Thermoresponsive Boc-Lysine-Based Acryl Polymer: RAFT Kinetics and Anti-Protein-Fouling of Its Zwitterionic Form

Summary: This study focuses on the design of a Boc-lysine-based monomer and its reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization to synthesize polymers with controllable molecular weights and low dispersities. These polymers show interesting upper critical solution temperature (UCST) and cloud point behavior in mixed solvents, as well as a tunable lower critical solution temperature (LCST) and cloud point under different conditions.

Anti-Fouling Surfaces for Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation by Surface Grafting of Hydrophilic Sulfoxide Polymers

Summary: This study proposes a method to graft highly hydrophilic polymer brushes onto the surface of PMP to improve its hemocompatibility and reduce the risk of thrombosis. The modified PMP membrane exhibits significantly reduced plasma protein adsorption and platelet adhesion compared to the unmodified membrane, making it suitable for ECMO and other blood-contacting medical devices.

Antifouling Surfaces Enabled by Surface Grafting of Highly Hydrophilic Sulfoxide Polymer Brushes

Summary: This study presents the synthesis of a new class of antifouling polymer brushes based on highly hydrophilic sulfoxide polymers using surface-initiated PET-RAFT polymerization. The sulfoxide polymer brushes show outstanding antifouling properties in reducing nonspecific adsorption of proteins and cells, offering a general approach to engineering material surfaces with antifouling properties for biomedical applications.

Thermoresponsive Sulfone and Sulfoxide-Containing Polyacrylamides

Summary: A series of thermoresponsive polyacrylamides containing sulfide, sulfone, or sulfoxide were successfully prepared and their thermal properties were investigated. By controlling the structure of the polymer chain, polyacrylamides with different lower critical solution temperatures (LCST) in water were synthesized. Amphiphilic block copolymers were also assembled into micelles in water, which transformed into unimers upon addition of H2O2.
