Local structure mapping of gel-spun ultrahigh-molecular-weight polyethylene fibers

Mathias K. Huss-Hansen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the structural and morphological uniformity of high-performance gel-spun ultrahigh-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fibers using spatial resolutions of less than 2 μm. The findings reveal increased orientation of PE crystallites near the fiber surface, with the degree of orientation influenced by the draw down ratio and quench temperature. Polarized Raman spectroscopy and small-angle X-ray scattering computed tomography confirm the presence of a skin-core structure in the samples.

Radial gradients in PET monofilaments: A Raman mapping and SAXS tomography study

E. Perret et al.

Summary: Surface properties of monofilaments can be tailored with radial structural gradients, which are strongly affected by the drawing method. Offline drawn filaments have lower surface crystallinity while online drawn filaments exhibit the opposite. The long-spacing between crystals increases towards the fiber surface and is larger in fibers with higher drawing extent.

Three-dimensional numerical simulation on fiber orientation of short-glass-fiber-reinforced polypropylene composite thin-wall injection-molded parts simultaneously accounting for wall slip effect and pressure dependence of viscosity

Qing-song Jiang et al.

Summary: A three-dimensional numerical model considering the wall slip effect and pressure dependence of viscosity was proposed for simulating the fiber orientation in thin-wall injection-molded parts of SGFRPC. The results showed that the three-dimensional numerical model can better predict the fiber orientation, and several important processing parameters were also studied.

Internal nanostructure and structure-processing relationship of injection molded poly (butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) studied by SAXS-CT

Nan Meng et al.

Summary: SAXS-CT technique successfully reveals the internal microstructure and morphology of PBAT, showing the three-dimensional distribution of the material and the characteristics of different parts. Additionally, it can also observe a vortex ring inside the PBAT caused by secondary flow during injection molding process.
