Cyclodextrins with Multiple Pyrenyl Groups: An Approach to Organic Molecules Exhibiting Bright Excimer Circularly Polarized Luminescence

Hajime Shigemitsu et al.

Summary: A simple and effective approach to organic molecules exhibiting bright circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) was reported by combining a chiral cyclic molecular scaffold and multiple excimer-enabling moieties. The resulting pyrene-cyclodextrins (PCDs) displayed high molar extinction coefficients, polarized emission, and quantum yield, leading to a brightness of 340 M-1 cm(-1) for CPL. Formation of a pyrene excimer in a spatially crowded environment was found to be crucial for CPL anisotropy.

Pyrene-based monomer-excimer dual response organosilicon polymer for the selective detection of 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) and 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP)

Zhiming Gou et al.

Summary: A pyrene-based monomer-excimer dual response fluorescent sensor was developed for the selective detection of TNT and TNP. The sensor exhibited different fluorescence behaviors for the two analytes and the cause of different selectivities was explored through theoretical simulations. This study provides a new design strategy for synthesizing excimer-based fluorescent probes.

Host-Guest Complexation-Induced Aggregation Based on Pyrene-Modified Cyclodextrins for Improved Electronic Circular Dichroism and Circularly Polarized Luminescence

Chenlin Tu et al.

Summary: Several gamma-cyclodextrin derivatives substituted with pyrenes at the primary rim of the CD were found to form nano-strips in aqueous solutions, with pyrene moieties interpenetrating into gamma-CD cavities. The aggregates provide a rigid chiral environment for the pyrenes, leading to significant electronic circular dichroism and circularly polarized luminescence activities.

Probing intramolecular vibronic coupling through vibronic-state imaging

Fan-Fang Kong et al.

Summary: Vibronic coupling within a single pentacene molecule was investigated through imaging the spatial distribution of single-molecule electroluminescence, revealing its importance in electronic transitions. The effect of different vibronic coupling modes on electron distributions in real space was resolved using scanning tunneling microscopy induced luminescence.

Mechanically Responsive Luminescent Polymers Based on Supramolecular Cyclophane Mechanophores

Yoshimitsu Sagara et al.

Summary: A new approach to cyclophane-based supramolecular mechanophores is introduced in this study. The mechanically responsive cyclic motif shows a noticeable change in emission color upon deformation, indicating a suppression of excimer-promoting interactions between luminophores. The research suggests that cyclophanes have the potential for developing various supramolecular mechanophores for detecting and visualizing weak forces in polymeric materials or living tissues.
