Review of the black meat chicken breeds: Kadaknath, Silkie, and Ayam Cemani

A. Prakash et al.

Summary: The demand for poultry meat and eggs is increasing worldwide, especially for lean meat and low cholesterol eggs. Kadaknath, Silkie, and Ayam Cemani chickens, known for their black meat, are a good choice for health-conscious consumers. These breeds have high protein and low-fat meat with antioxidant and glucose-binding properties. They have also been traditionally used for treating chronic illnesses. However, there is a need to increase their productivity to meet public demand.

Transcript expression profiling of fibromelanosis-related genes in black-bone chickens

X. Zhang et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to identify DEGs and metabolic pathways involved in fibromelanosis in black-bone chickens. Analysis revealed that genes from the extracellular region and associated components were abundant among the DEGs, and many DEGs were linked to amino acid metabolism and the immune system. Important candidate genes such as DCT, TAT, HPD, F2, FGB, PLG, and C7 were identified in the fibromelanosis process and require further correlation analysis and functional verification.

Label-Free LC-MS/MS Analysis Reveals Different Proteomic Profiles between Egg Yolks of Silky Fowl and Ordinary Chickens

Rao Wu et al.

Summary: The proteomic profiles of Silky fowl egg yolk (SFEY) and Leghorn egg yolk (LEY) were compared, revealing significant differences in protein abundance and composition. Differences in protein expression levels and the presence of coagulation-related and neuroactive ligand-receptor interaction proteins were observed. This study provides a theoretical basis for further exploration of the nutritional and biomedical applications of Silky fowl eggs.

Oral traditional Chinese patent medicines combined with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for primary dysmenorrhea: A protocol for Bayesian network meta-analysis and systematic review

Zhe Chen et al.

Summary: Primary dysmenorrhea (PD) is the most common gynecological disorder with a high prevalence worldwide. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) have become the first-line medication for PD and are commonly combined with oral traditional Chinese patent medicines (TCPMs) in clinical practice. This network meta-analysis aims to provide better efficacy and safety evidence for oral TCPMs combined with NSAIDs in treating PD.

Comparative Metabolomics Analysis Reveals the Unique Nutritional Characteristics of Breed and Feed on Muscles in Chinese Taihe Black-Bone Silky Fowl

Xinjun Liao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the differences in nutritional components and muscle characteristics of the Chinese Taihe Black-bone silky fowl (TBsf) under different diets. Metabolic analysis revealed differential metabolites between TBsf-ncf and BF-gsc groups, as well as TBsf-ncf and TBsf-bpf groups. Integrated network analysis identified significant metabolic biomarkers in TBsf. These findings provide valuable information for the production and development of TBsf, enhancing its economic value.

1H NMR-based water-soluble lower molecule characterization and fatty acid composition of Chinese native chickens and commercial broiler

Zhichao Xiao et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the content of main flavor substances in raw meat and chicken soup between two Chinese native chickens and one typical commercial broiler. The results showed that the Chinese native chickens had higher levels of flavor compounds in their meat, while the commercial broiler had higher levels in its chicken soup.

Meat quality and Raman spectroscopic characterization of Korat hybrid chicken obtained from various rearing periods

Sasikan Katemala et al.

Summary: The study characterized the physico-chemical properties of Korat hybrid chicken (KC) meat and found that protein content, pH, water-holding capacity, cholesterol, and nucleotide content varied with chicken age. Older birds had higher shear force values and total collagen content, while Raman spectral data showed correlations between beta-sheet structure, amide content, and shear force values in KC meat. The study suggests potential markers for evaluating KC meat quality.

Proline metabolism and transport in retinal health and disease

Jianhai Du et al.

Summary: The retina is a highly energy-demanding tissue in the human body, with the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) playing a crucial role in supporting photoreceptor function and delaying retinal degenerative diseases. Studies have shown that RPE cells prefer proline as a major metabolic substrate, providing the necessary energy for mitochondrial metabolism and cell survival.

Modulating skin colour: role of the thioredoxin and glutathione systems in regulating melanogenesis

Yaoying Lu et al.

Summary: Individual differences in skin color are determined by the amount and types of melanin, which is produced in melanocytes located in the basal layer of the epidermis. Melanogenesis is regulated by both intrinsic signaling pathways and extrinsic factors such as UV radiation. Antioxidants, such as the thioredoxin and glutathione systems, play a crucial role in melanogenesis and may have potential as depigmenting agents for hyperpigmentation disorders.

α-Tocopherol transfer protein (α-TTP)

Hiroyuki Arai et al.

Summary: Alpha-Tocopherol transfer protein (alpha-TTP) is the only known protein that specifically recognizes alpha-tocopherol, playing a major role in determining plasma alpha-Toc concentrations. Mutations in the alpha-TTP gene cause familial vitamin E deficiency. In hepatocytes, alpha-TTP facilitates the vectorial transport of alpha-Toc by targeting phosphatidylinositol phosphates at the plasma membrane.
