IGF-binding proteins secreted by cancer-associated fibroblasts induce context-dependent drug sensitization of lung cancer cells

Lily L. Remsing Rix et al.

Summary: The presence of cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) in the tumor microenvironment can influence drug resistance in certain lung cancer cell lines. The expression and secretion of insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) and insulin-like growth factor-binding proteins (IGFBPs) in CAFs and normal lung-associated fibroblasts (NAFs) play a role in signaling pathways that promote or inhibit drug sensitivity. Understanding the relationship between CAF secretomes and tumor signaling dependencies may lead to effective combination treatment strategies.

Research Progress on Therapeutic Targeting of Cancer-Associated Fibroblasts to Tackle Treatment-Resistant NSCLC

Chenxin Li et al.

Summary: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most common type of lung cancer and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Targeted therapy and immunotherapy have emerged as promising treatment options for NSCLC, but drug resistance and low response rates still pose significant challenges. Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) play a crucial role in the tumor microenvironment, promoting cancer cell growth, invasion, metastasis, and drug resistance. Targeting CAFs could be a valuable strategy for NSCLC treatment.

The prognosis of non-small cell lung cancer patients according to endobronchial metastatic lesion

Yoonki Hong et al.

Summary: The presence of endobronchial metastatic lesion (EML) is associated with a poorer prognosis in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), particularly in those without detectable lesions on PET or CT scans. This study evaluated the progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) in NSCLC patients with or without EML. The results showed that patients with EML had shorter median PFS and OS compared to those without EML. Additionally, EGFR mutation status, performance status, and pleural effusion were also significant factors affecting PFS in NSCLC patients.

Cancer-associated fibroblast-derived SDF-1 induces epithelial-mesenchymal transition of lung adenocarcinoma via CXCR4/β-catenin/PPARδ signalling

Yingyan Wang et al.

Summary: CAFs promote EMT in lung ADC through SDF-1, which enhances invasiveness and EMT by regulating CXCR4, beta-catenin, and PPAR delta. High expression of these proteins correlated with poor prognosis, suggesting targeting the SDF-1-mediated CXCR4 beta-catenin/PPAR delta cascade may be an effective approach for lung cancer treatment.

Role of cancer-associated fibroblasts in the resistance to antitumor therapy, and their potential therapeutic mechanisms in non-small cell lung cancer

Congcong Chen et al.

Summary: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is a malignant tumor with high morbidity and mortality rates, and the emergence of drug resistance, particularly involving cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) in the tumor microenvironment (TME), is a significant obstacle to treatment. Current research has yet to fully elucidate the drug resistance mechanisms of CAFs and effective strategies for reversing resistance.

The Role of Tumor Inflammatory Microenvironment in Lung Cancer

Zhaofeng Tan et al.

Summary: Lung cancer is the most common and fatal malignant tumor globally, with inflammation playing a crucial role in its occurrence and development. Inflammatory cells and factors in the tumor microenvironment promote lung cancer by activating inflammatory pathways and mechanisms like immune escape, angiogenesis, and apoptosis. Understanding the relationship between inflammation and lung cancer through the tumor microenvironment can lead to the discovery of new therapeutic targets for the disease.
