Lung Metastasectomy from Colorectal Cancer, 10-year Experience in a South American Cancer Center

Carlos Carvajal et al.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the survival outcomes and prognostic factors in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) undergoing pulmonary metastasectomy in South America. The study found that bilateral, multiple pulmonary metastases, abnormal postmetastasectomy carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), history of liver metastasis, and disease-free interval (DFI) ≤12 months were associated with worse overall survival.

Circulating tumour DNA in gastrointestinal cancer in clinical practice: Just a dream or maybe not?

Andrea Pretta et al.

Summary: The evaluation of circulating tumor DNA has significant clinical value in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal cancer, particularly in early tumor detection and molecular tracking in advanced stages. Further research is needed to determine the impact of liquid biopsy on clinical practice.

Does pulmonary metastasectomy of colorectal metastases translate to better survival? A systematic review

Kai-Yin Lee et al.

Summary: The evidence currently does not support a clear survival benefit in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer who undergo lung metastasectomy compared to those who do not, or compared to those who undergo liver metastasectomy. More prospective studies are needed to fully understand the impact of lung metastasectomy on outcomes in metastatic CRC.

The second modification of a dedicated staging system for lung metastases

Michel Gonzalez et al.

Summary: This study updates a previously proposed classification system for pulmonary metastases in order to explore predictive and survival prognostic factors, as well as to differentiate patients who will benefit from lung metastasectomy. The secondary objective is to provide a common language for physicians, oncologists, and surgeons to compare data and evaluate treatment results for lung metastases.
