On-chip micro-ring resonator array spectrum detection system based on convex optimization algorithm

Xinyang Chen et al.

Summary: In this paper, an all on-chip micro-ring resonator array spectrum detection system (MRRAS) is proposed. The transmission matrix of the system is constructed using a micro-ring resonator array as the core. The spectrum detection system is theoretically analyzed using waveguide transmission theory and a spectrum construction method based on a convex optimization algorithm. In the experiment, the priori information of the transmission matrix is obtained, and the output intensity of unknown spectrum is detected through MRRAS. The under-determined matrix equations are constructed when the number of micro-rings is much smaller than that of reconstructed wavelengths. A convex optimization algorithm is used to obtain the least norm solution of the under-determined matrix equations, enabling fast spectrum reconstruction. The experimental results demonstrate that the compact MRRAS consists of three micro-ring resonators with a 4 μm radius, and the system operating bandwidth is more than 12 nm with a resolution better than 0.17 nm.
