Synergetic effects of microbial-phytoremediation reshape microbial communities and improve degradation of petroleum contaminants

Ao Wang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effectiveness of natural attenuation, microbial remediation, phytoremediation, and microbial-phytoremediation in degrading petroleum hydrocarbons. The findings showed that the roots of the plant absorbed small amounts of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, resulting in changes in the soil microbial community structure. The abundance of petroleum-degrading bacteria and plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria increased, along with microbial diversity.

Improvement of nitrogen and phosphorus availability by Pseudoalteromonas sp. during salt-washing in saline-alkali soil

Zhe Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a combination of halophilic marine bacteria strain CF8-6 and corn cob was found to decrease the leaching of nitrogen and inactivation of phosphorus in saline-alkali soil during salt-washing, increasing soil available phosphorus and bioavailable phosphorus content. The abundance of nitrogen-fixing bacteria, Proteobacteria and Actinobacteria in soil also increased with this combination, showing promising potential for improving soil nitrogen and phosphorus bioavailability during the salt-washing process in saline-alkali soil.

A nitrogen supplement to regulate the degradation of petroleum hydrocarbons in soil microbial electrochemical remediation

Xiaolin Zhang et al.

Summary: The addition of NO-N, NH4-N, and organic-N (urea) to petroleum hydrocarbon-contaminated soil enhanced hydrocarbon removal. NH4+ addition increased coulombic efficiency through potential exoelectrogens. Overall, nitrogen conversion coupled with organic degradation is essential for soil microbial electrochemical remediation.

Succession of microbial communities and synergetic effects during bioremediation of petroleum hydrocarbon-contaminated soil enhanced by chemical oxidation

Lisha Zhen et al.

Summary: The research found that the application of degrading consortia and modified Fenton (MF) reagents can enhance the removal efficiency of petroleum hydrocarbons in soil, promote changes in enzyme activities, and drive microbial community succession. Proper proportions of components in MF reagents can simplify relationships between microbial populations, alleviate competition, and strengthen associations, ultimately optimizing bioremediation efficiency.
