Summary: This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of colchicine vs. placebo for preventing post-operative atrial fibrillation (POAF) in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. Analysis of eight randomized controlled trials showed that colchicine significantly reduced the risk of POAF, but also increased the risk of adverse gastrointestinal events without affecting the risk of drug discontinuation. Colchicine and aspirin in community patients with COVID-19 (ACT): an open-label, factorial, randomised, controlled trial

Summary: The ACT outpatient trial aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of colchicine and aspirin in preventing disease progression in community patients with COVID-19. The results showed no significant difference in the occurrence of major outcomes, such as hospitalization or death, between the colchicine and aspirin treatment groups compared to the control groups. The study also found that the colchicine group had more serious adverse events, but none of them led to discontinuation of the study interventions. There was no significant increase in serious adverse events in the aspirin group compared to the control group.

Implantable loop recorder detection of atrial fibrillation to prevent stroke ( The LOOP Study): a randomised controlled trial

Summary: In individuals with stroke risk factors, ILR screening resulted in a three-times increase in atrial fibrillation detection and anticoagulation initiation but no significant reduction in the risk of stroke or systemic arterial embolism. These findings might imply that not all atrial fibrillation is worth screening for, and not all screen-detected atrial fibrillation merits anticoagulation.
