Characterization and development of periodic acoustic metamaterials using a transfer matrix approach

Zacharie Laly et al.

Summary: A transfer matrix approach combined with finite element calculations was proposed to characterize homogeneous and non-homogeneous acoustic absorbing materials with in-plane periodicity. Results showed that the method can accurately predict sound transmission loss and optimize multilayer systems.

Two-port network spiral type asymmetric absorption system

Zhiheng Hong et al.

Summary: This paper presents a resonator with a variable helical structure that induces a change in the internal impedance, achieving an asymmetric absorption mechanism of acoustic waves. The acoustic energy is almost completely absorbed at 287.5 Hz. The system absorbs acoustic energy from one side and mostly reflects it from the other side due to impedance matching/mismatch.

Investigation of broadband sound absorption of smart micro-perforated panel (MPP) absorber

Xiang Liu et al.

Summary: An investigation into a smart micro-perforated panel aims to enhance the sound absorption performance of MPP absorbers at low frequencies, utilizing a combination of mechanical damping, electrical shunt damping, and Helmholtz resonance. Different multimode shunt design methods are explored to intensify panel vibration and improve sound absorption, with absorption peaks induced by electromechanical coupling found at frequencies lower than the MPP's Helmholtz resonance frequency.
