Nanohydroxyapatite-Blasted Bioactive Surface Drives Shear-Stressed Endothelial Cell Growth and Angiogenesis

T. S. Pinto et al.

Summary: This study reveals that nanosized crystalline hydroxyapatite coating can accelerate the osteointegration of dental implants and drive angiogenesis by promoting endothelial cell migration. Additionally, the coating modulates the expression of genes related to angiogenesis and controls endothelial cell growth through extracellular matrix remodeling.

Preparation and characterization of novel as-cast Ti-Mo-Nb alloys for biomedical applications

Giovana Collombaro Cardoso et al.

Summary: Ti and its alloys are widely used metallic biomaterials due to their excellent properties. However, current alloys have limitations, and new beta-type alloys with non-cytotoxic elements are being developed. This study evaluated Ti-5Mo-xNb alloys and found that increasing Nb concentration led to the growth of the beta-Ti phase, while microhardness decreased except for Ti-5Mo-10Nb alloy. In vitro tests showed no cytotoxicity.

Metabolic effects of CoCr-enriched medium on shear-stressed endothelial cell and osteoblasts: A possible mechanism involving a hypoxic condition on bone healing

Celio Junior da Costa Fernandes et al.

Summary: CoCr-enriched medium affects the metabolism of endothelial and osteoblast cells, with endothelial cells showing higher gene expression levels under CoCr-enriched medium and lower oxidative stress commitment. Osteoblasts responding to metabolites of CoCr-challenged endothelial cells exhibit increased expression of genes related to osteogenic differentiation, suggesting a crosstalk between angiogenesis and osteogenesis.
