Improving thermal conductivity of polybutylene terephthalate composites with hybrid synthetic graphite and carbon fiber

Zafer Yenier et al.

Summary: Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic polyester with excellent properties. In this study, PBT composites filled with synthetic graphite and carbon fiber were investigated. The results showed that increasing the carbon fiber content improves the mechanical strength of PBT, while synthetic graphite loading decreases it.

Enhanced mechanical and thermal properties of graphene nanoplatelets-reinforced polyamide11/poly(lactic acid) nanocomposites

Bedriye Ucpinar Durmaz et al.

Summary: This study aims to obtain a sustainable nanocomposite by incorporating graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) into a bio-based polyamide 11 and biodegradable poly (lactic acid) blend matrix. The results show that the inclusion of GNP increases the crystallinity of polyamide 11 and the thermal degradation temperature of poly (lactic acid), while enhancing the storage modulus and glass transition temperature of the matrix. However, a high amount of GNP leads to a decrease in the tensile strength of the matrix.

High-performance thermoplastic polyaryletherketone/carbon fiber composites: Comparison of plasma, carbon nanotubes/graphene nano-anchoring, surface oxidation techniques for enhanced interface adhesion and properties

Sarath P. Kumar et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the development and performance comparison of carbon fiber (CF)-poly-aryletherketone (PAEK) thermoplastic laminates prepared using CF treated with plasma, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT), graphene, acid, and rare earth elements. Surface-treated CF showed improved wettability and lower contact angle. Plasma-treated PAEK-CF composites exhibited superior mechanical properties due to better interfacial adhesion between CF and PAEK.

Electromagnetic Interference Shielding Performances of Carbon-Fiber-Reinforced PA11/PLA Composites in the X-Band Frequency Range

Bedriye Ucpinar Durmaz et al.

Summary: In order to solve the problem of increasing electromagnetic pollution, the development of electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials is crucial. Using lightweight and inexpensive polymeric composites instead of metal shielding materials shows promise. Bio-based polyamide 11/poly(lactic acid) composites with various carbon fiber amounts were prepared and their characteristics were investigated. The inclusion of carbon fibers increased thermal stability, electrical conductivity, dielectric permittivity, and EMI shielding effectiveness.

The influence of entanglements of macromolecules on the mechanical and thermal properties of polylactide composites with carbon nanotubes

Hoorieh Barangizi et al.

Summary: The influence of reducing macromolecular entanglements on the thermal and mechanical properties of polylactide composites containing carbon nanotubes was investigated. The dispersion of the filler during composite fabrication was improved due to partial disentangling of macromolecules. The decrease in macromolecular entanglements resulted in faster crystallization and affected the mechanical properties, making plastic deformation easier and altering the strain-hardening effect.

Graphene nanoplatelets reinforced Polyamide-11 nanocomposites thermal stability and aging for application in flexible pipelines

Barbara de Salles Macena da Cruz et al.

Summary: Novel nanocomposites of polyamide-11 (PA11) reinforced with commercial graphene nano-platelets (GNP) were prepared and characterized for their thermal stability and aging performance. The incorporation of GNP increased the thermal stability of PA11 and improved the crystallinity of the composites. GNP also promoted an increase in the storage and loss moduli and enhanced the hydrophilicity of the nanocomposites. Furthermore, GNP reinforcement prevented the decrease in the molar mass of PA11 and showed potential for application in flexible oil/gas pipelines.
