Comparative analysis of exothermic behaviour of fresh and aged pine wood

Jiajia Song et al.

Summary: In this study, the exothermic behavior of naturally aged wood during combustion was investigated to determine the effect of natural aging on the macroscopic thermal effect of wood combustion. The results provide a basic theoretical reference for fire risk assessment and simulation of ancient wooden buildings.

Effects of Accelerated Weathering Test on the Properties of Larch Wood

Liting Cheng et al.

Summary: By using the QUV accelerated weathering tester, the changes in larch wood properties were studied under accelerated weathering. The wood color darkened significantly with increasing weathering time, and microscopic analysis showed cell wall damage and oxidation reactions. Comparing the static flexural modulus with the dynamic modulus, it was observed that the MOE values were higher than E-d, with higher variability.

Effect of Artificial Ageing on Adhesive Bonds from Heat Treated Spruce

Mirko Kariz et al.

Summary: The study found that artificial ageing caused cracking and delamination of the bonded joints of heat-treated spruce lamellas, as well as a decrease in adhesive bond strength. Delamination was more severe for PVAc adhesive compared to MUF, and increased for both adhesives with higher wood heat treatment temperatures. Additionally, the shear strength of bonds on the exposed side of the samples after artificial weathering was lower than the average strength of the whole sample.

Lead contamination among Paris Fire Brigade firefighters who fought the Notre Dame Cathedral fire in Paris

Alexandre Allonneau et al.

Summary: The Notre Dame Cathedral fire in Paris resulted in moderate lead contamination among firefighters, with all BLLs decreasing over time and none exceeding the legal biological BLL limit value. BLLs varied based on the function of firefighters, suggesting a need to improve respiratory protection conditions.

Review of vulnerability indicators for fire risk assessment in cultural heritage

L. Gerardo F. Salazar et al.

Summary: Indicator-based methods provide a simple and reliable way to assess fire risk, but existing methods may not be suitable for cultural heritage assets. Developing a versatile method for analyzing the fire safety of cultural heritage assets is necessary, and requires a review of existing approaches to understand their strengths and weaknesses. This review proposes new vulnerability indicators, classification methods, and discusses their applicability for assessing fire risk in cultural heritage assets.
