Microporous three dimensional ordered zeolite-templated carbon for efficient removal of VOCs: Experimental study and molecular dynamics simulation

Hantian Li et al.

Summary: Zeolite-templated carbon (ZTC), a three dimensional ordered carbon material, was synthesized and used as an efficient adsorbent for the removal of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The ZTC sample prepared at 600 degrees C for 7 h exhibited the largest specific surface area and the best adsorption capacity for toluene, benzene, and m-xylene. The presence of O-2, SO2, and H2O influenced the adsorption capacity of VOCs, with O-2 initially promoting the removal ability and H2O having the most inhibitory effect.

Functionalized mesoporous SiO2-CaO-Na2O-P2O5 based nanometric glass-ceramic particles with enhanced dispersibility and bioactivity

Jaideep Adhikari et al.

Summary: In this study, bioactive glass-ceramic (BGC) particles were synthesized using an acid catalyzed sol-gel derived route (Acid-BGC) and a modified Stober process under basic conditions (Basic-BGC). Acid-BGC showed complete conversion to a glass-ceramic form, while Basic-BGC exhibited reduced crystalline conversion. CTAB concentration was found to affect particle size and mesoporous structure of Basic-BGC, with 6 mM CTAB being the optimal concentration. Functionalization of Basic-BGC with glutamic acid enhanced its antibacterial, antioxidant, and bioactive properties without compromising dispersion stability. These findings suggest potential applications of functionalized Basic-BGC in bioprinting and electrospinning.

Heterogeneous activation of persulfate by macroscopic nitrogen-doped graphene oxide cubes for the degradation of antibiotic contaminants in water

Rajan Arjan Kalyan Hirani et al.

Summary: In this study, three-dimensional nitrogen-doped graphene macrostructures (3D-NGMs) were synthesized and used for the activation of peroxydisulfate (PS) to degrade sulfamethoxazole (SMX). The nitrogen configuration in the sp2 hybridised carbon network of the catalytic cubes was found to play an important role in the advanced oxidation processes. The optimal N-loading in NGC3 cubes showed outstanding performance for SMX degradation, and a possible reaction mechanism was proposed based on comprehensive studies on radical generation.

Combined computational and experimental study about the incorporation of phosphorus into the structure of graphene oxide

Tainara L. G. Costa et al.

Summary: This work presents an easy method to synthesize phosphorus-graphene oxide hybrid materials by varying the amounts of H3PO4 and H2SO4 during the oxidation reaction of a graphitic precursor. The physical and chemical properties of the hybrids can be significantly adjusted by changing the acid amounts used. XPS, solid-state C-13 and P-31 NMR results confirm the presence of oxygen functional groups and the incorporation of phosphorus through phosphate-like linkages and C-O-P bonds. DFT calculations provide insights into the energetics and geometry of the interaction between phosphate groups and graphene-based models, in good agreement with the experimental NMR spectra.

N/S co-doped microporous zeolite-templated carbon for efficient CO2 adsorption and separation

Weitao Cao et al.

Summary: Heteroatomic doping of zeolite-templated carbon (ZTC) with nitrogen and sulfur enhances CO2 adsorption capacity and selectivity. The CO2 adsorption of N and S-doped ZTC materials is significantly higher than that of undoped ZTC at 0 degrees C, reaching up to 9.32 mmol g(-1). The ZTC-NS shows the highest CO2 adsorption capacity among the doped materials, indicating a synergistic enhancement effect between sulfur and nitrogen doping. Theoretical calculations reveal that N and S co-doping changes the electrostatic surface potential and local electronic density of porous carbon materials, thereby enhancing CO2 adsorption.

The adsorption of cationic dye onto ACPMG@ZIF-8 core-shell, optimization using central composite response surface methodology (CCRSM)

Soheila Sharafinia et al.

Summary: The study aimed to find an effective adsorbent for the removal of cationic dyes like Safranin O, using ACPMG and ZIF-8 to form ACPMG@ZIF-8 core-shell. The adsorbents were characterized using various techniques, revealing essential changes in porosity after modification. Optimization of factors such as loading amount, initial dye concentration, contact time, and pH was conducted, achieving an equal adsorption capacity of 1250 mg/g. Adsorption followed Langmuir isotherm and quasi-second-order kinetic models, with the process being exothermic and spontaneous.

The state of BEA zeolite supported nickel catalysts in CO2 methanation reaction

Wojciech Gac et al.

Summary: Two model nickel catalysts for CO2 methanation, NiHAlBEA and NiSiBEA, were prepared using unmodified and dealuminated BEA-type zeolite supports. Synthesis of hierarchical zeolite templated carbons

T. Aumond et al.

Summary: The achievement of hierarchical zeolite templated carbons (ZTCs) utilizing mesoporous zeolites as sacrificial scaffolds was reported. The obtained hierarchical ZTCs feature tailored microporosity and high mesoporosity, bridging the gap between classical ZTCs and CMK-like materials. The rearrangement of surfactant-templated mesoporosity during ZTC formation impacts the crystal size and lattice strain of the zeolite template, while the surfactant-templating of USY zeolite leads to the development of a secondary amorphous phase.
