LAMMPS-a flexible simulation tool for particle-based materials modeling at the atomic, meso, and continuum scales

Aidan P. Thompson et al.

Summary: LAMMPS, a classical molecular dynamics simulator released as an open source code in 2004, has gained popularity for its wide variety of particle interaction models, platform compatibility, and user control over simulation details. With contributions from numerous developers, it has grown from 50,000 lines of code to a million today, showcasing new capabilities like dynamic load balancing and quantum-accuracy machine learning interatomic potentials.

The hierarchical energy landscape of screw dislocation motion in refractory high-entropy alloys

Xinyi Wang et al.

Summary: This study constructs and reports the potential energy landscape governing screw dislocation motion in high-entropy alloys (HEAs). It reveals a hierarchical and multilevel structure, which retards dislocation movement and can be regulated by introducing chemical short-range order.

Strong yet ductile nanolamellar high-entropy alloys by additive manufacturing

Jie Ren et al.

Summary: Through laser powder bed fusion, we have successfully printed dual-phase nanolamellar high-entropy alloys with high yield strength and large uniform elongation. The high yield strength is attributed to the dual-phase structure consisting of alternating face-centred cubic and body-centred cubic nanolamellae, while the large tensile ductility arises from the high work-hardening capability of the dual-phase nanolamellae embedded in microscale eutectic colonies.

Machine-learning interatomic potentials for materials science

Y. Mishin

Summary: This article reviews the current status of interatomic potentials in the field of materials science, comparing the strengths and weaknesses of traditional potentials and machine learning potentials. It introduces a new class of potentials that combine physics-based potential with machine learning models to enhance transferability to unknown atomic environments. Potential future directions in this field are outlined.
