Coupling between uplift of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt-NE Tibetan Plateau and accumulation of aeolian Red Clay in the inner Asia began at-7 Ma

Jimin Sun et al.

Summary: The Asian interior is home to significant geological features, including the Central Asian Orogenic Belt, the largest mid-latitude desert, and extensive late Cenozoic sediment deposits. By studying the aeolian Red Clay and its connection to the reactivation and uplift history of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt and the northeastern Tibetan Plateau, researchers have found evidence of simultaneous events occurring around 7 million years ago. This research provides a basis for understanding the link between deep Earth processes and surface phenomena, with implications for the ecosystem in Asia.

Multiproxy records in middle-late Miocene sediments from the Wushan Basin: Implications for climate change and tectonic deformation in the northeastern Tibetan Plateau

Weitao Wang et al.

Summary: The study reveals that in the middle Miocene, aridity in the Wushan Basin gradually increased, possibly due to a combination of global cooling and tectonic deformation. By 10 million years ago, significant shifts in isotopes and colors even occurred, consistent with changes in basin environment and provenance.

Incision History of the Three Gorges, Yangtze River Constrained From Inversion of River Profiles and Low-Temperature Thermochronological Data

Ruohong Jiao et al.

Summary: Using inverse modeling and Bayesian analysis, we reconstructed the incision history of bedrock rivers in the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River, indicating an early Miocene onset of incision and a significant decrease in incision rate during the Pliocene. The incision of the Three Gorges appears to have been heavily influenced by the development of the Upper Yangtze River and the East Asian monsoon, as inferred from comparisons with denudation of the eastern Tibetan Plateau and regional climate change.

Temporal profiling of uplift rate along an active fault using river long profile in the Kuchchh region, Western India

Sonam et al.

Summary: River long profiles are used as tectonic event markers, with long-term averaged uplift rate values obtained from dating river terrace or exposed scarp sediment. GPS estimates provide only decadalscale uplift rate estimates. The study used long profile inversion methodology to obtain uplift rate history along an active fault in western India, with mean uplift rate value of 1.1-1.4 mm/yr. The data can complement existing uplift rate databases for seismic hazard assessment.

Growth of the Northeastern Tibetan Plateau Driven by Crustal Channel Flow: Evidence From High-Resolution Ambient Noise Imaging

Panpan Zhao et al.

Summary: Utilizing ambient noise imaging techniques, we generated high-resolution 3D images of crustal S-wave velocity structure beneath northeastern Tibet. The results reveal a prevalent low-velocity structure in the middle crust, indicating influences of channel flow from inside the plateau and material extrusion in the periphery in the growth of the northeastern Tibetan Plateau.

Temporal and Spatial Variations in Rock Uplift From River-Profile Inversions at the Central Anatolian Plateau Southern Margin

Simone Racano et al.

Summary: In geodynamically active areas, variations in rock uplift can be studied through quantitative analysis of river profiles, providing insights into the evolution of topography. Factors such as rock-uplift rate, erodibility of underlying rock, and climate affect fluvial landscapes, and river profiles can be inverted to determine the rock-uplift histories that created them. This study demonstrates how the spatio-temporal rock-uplift history of the CAP southern margin can be defined through analysis of river profiles.
