The D- and G-branches associated with the Raman spectrum of thin-film carbon

Kathrin Schmidt et al.

Summary: For the Raman spectrum of thin-film carbon, the concept of D- and G-branches is introduced, which are related to the D- and G-peaks, respectively. This study finds that the D-branch shoulder and onset exhibit a fair amount of dispersion across the thin-film carbon genome, while the G-branch shoulder and onset are relatively uniform. The variations in the D-branch and G-branch shoulders and onsets within the thin-film carbon groupings identified by Ferrari and Robertson (2000) are explored, suggesting a potential need for revision of these groupings.

Construction of Co2NiO4@MnCo2O4.5 nanoparticles with multiple hetero-interfaces for enhanced electromagnetic wave absorption

Yi Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, Co2NiO4@MnCo2O4.5 nanoparticles were synthesized with abundant hetero-interfaces and multiple magneto-electric loss mechanisms. The excess 0.5 oxygen atoms in MnCo2O4.5 enhanced electrical conductivity. Nanoneedle clusters facilitated multiple reflections and absorption of EMW, accompanied by heterogeneous interfaces to improve dielectric loss. The obtained composites showed excellent EMW absorption performance with low reflection loss and wide effective absorption bandwidth, as well as significant radar attenuation properties.

Microwave absorbing property of gelcasting SiC-Si3N4 ceramics with hierarchical pore structures

Huihui Zhang et al.

Summary: This study reports the X-band microwave absorbing properties of gelcasted SiC-Si3N4 ceramics with different hierarchical pore structures for the first time. The effects of pore structures, sample thickness, and temperature on the complex permittivity and microwave absorption performance of SiC-Si3N4 ceramics were systematically investigated. The results indicate that the introduction of appropriate hierarchical pore structure improves the absorbing performance of the material.

Effect of SiC interphase on the mechanical, high-temperature dielectric and high-temperature microwave absorption properties of the SiCf/SiC/Mu composites

Hui Gao et al.

Summary: In this study, SiC interphase was prepared using a precursor infiltration-pyrolysis process. The effects of dipping concentrations on the mechanical, high-temperature dielectric, and microwave absorption properties of SiCf/SiC/Mu composites were investigated. It was found that the SiC interphase prepared with 5 wt% PCS/xylene solution had a smooth and homogeneous morphology and greatly improved the mechanical properties of the composite. The SiCf/SiC/Mu composites also showed enhanced dielectric properties and microwave absorption at high temperatures.

Effects of fiber volume fraction on the densification and mechanical properties of unidirectional SiCf/SiC-matrix composites

Kazuya Shimoda et al.

Summary: Unidirectional SiCf/SiC-matrix composites with a pyrocarbon interface were prepared by hot-pressing SiC nano powder at high temperature (1900 degrees C) and pressure (20 MPa). The volume fraction of SiC reinforcing fiber significantly affected densification and mechanical properties, with improvements in mechanical properties observed with an increase in fiber volume fraction up to a certain level, beyond which the ultimate strength degraded due to open porosity and fiber damage.

Mechanical and tribological properties of h-BN/ZrO2/SiC solid-lubricating ceramic composites

Juanjuan Chen et al.

Summary: h-BN/ZrO2/SiC solid-lubricating ceramic composites were prepared by spark plasma sintering method. The mechanical properties declined with increasing h-BN content, while the friction coefficient decreased at both room temperature and 900 degrees C. The tribological properties were found to improve, but the main wear mode was considered to be surface brittle fracture, especially at 900 degrees C for composites with higher h-BN content.
