A new persistent luminescence phosphor of ZnGa2O4:Ni2+for the second near-infrared transparency window

Minghui Jin et al.

Summary: Recently, NIR persistent phosphors have gained attention in biomedical applications due to their low absorption coefficients in biological tissues. In this study, persistent luminescent phosphors of ZnGa2O4:xNi2+ were synthesized, which emit broad NIR emission in the second near-infrared (NIR-II) window. The phosphors exhibit long-lasting afterglow and strong NIR emission, making them potential candidates for in vivo imaging.

Anisotropic alumina ceramics with isotropic optical properties

Akio Ikesue et al.

Summary: Transparent alumina ceramics with excellent mechanical and isotropic optical properties are synthesized using a small amount of ZrO2 additive. The ceramics have a hexagonal crystal structure and an average grain size of 0.7 μm. The locally detected optical distortion (birefringence) is extremely minimized, less than 20 nm/pass.

Novel transparent MgGa2O4 and Ni2+-doped MgGa2O4 ceramics

Guangran Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, transparent ceramics of magnesium gallate (MgGa2O4), both undoped and doped with 1 at% Ni, were fabricated for the first time. The specimens were produced from in-house prepared powder and densified by pulsed electric current sintering. Doping with Ni was found to marginally improve the densification level and transparent specimens with high transmission were obtained. The absorption spectra revealed the presence of Ni2+ as the dopant in the octahedral sites of the lattice.

Elasto-Optic Effect of Lanthanum-Modified Lead Zirconate-Lead Titanate Transparent Ceramics: Application in Optical-Stress Sensors

Xinhua Ming et al.

Summary: Elasto-optic materials have extensive applications in optical-mechanical-coupled devices. In this study, lanthanum-modified lead zirconate-lead titanate (PLZT) transparent ceramics close to MPB are successfully prepared using the hot-pressing method. The PLZT ceramics exhibit high transmittance and a large elasto-optic effect, which enable the design and realization of intensity- and interference-type optical-stress sensors.
