The Effect of Intravenous and Oral Beta-Blocker Use in Patients with Type B Thoracic Aortic Dissection

Besma Nejim et al.

Summary: For patients with nontraumatic type B aortic dissection, the use of oral beta blockers during surgical repair is associated with a significant decrease in in-hospital mortality and stroke risk. Metoprolol, when administered intravenously, is the only type of beta blocker that improves survival.

Genome-wide associations of aortic distensibility suggest causality for aortic aneurysms and brain white matter hyperintensities

Catherine M. Francis et al.

Summary: The study identifies genetic variants associated with aortic distensibility, highlighting the causal relationships between aortic distensibility and aortic aneurysms as well as brain small vessel disease. The findings provide new insights into the mechanisms related to cardiovascular development, extracellular matrix production, and smooth muscle cell contraction.

EXPRESS: ESO guideline for the management of extracranial and intracranial artery dissection

Stephanie Debette et al.

Summary: The aim of the European Stroke Organisation guideline is to provide evidence-based recommendations on the management of extracranial artery dissection and intracranial artery dissection. The guidelines recommend specific treatments for acute ischemic stroke in EAD patients and early intervention for IAD patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage. For other situations, such as residual stenosis or dissecting aneurysms in post-acute EAD patients, there is insufficient data to make recommendations. Expert consensus statements provide additional guidance in situations where evidence is lacking.

Celiprolol Treatment in Patients with Vascular Ehlers-Danlos Synurome

Hassan Baderkhan et al.

Summary: The study found that in Swedish patients with vEDS, 65% of individuals were able to reach the target dose of Celiprolol and showed good tolerance to the drug. Despite fatal vascular events, observations suggest that Celiprolol may have a protective effect on vEDS.

Stefan T. Engelter et al.

Summary: In a non-inferiority trial for patients with cervical artery dissection, aspirin did not show non-inferiority to vitamin K antagonists, with no significant difference in treatment outcomes between the two groups.
