Observing Nonpreferential Absorption of Linear and Cyclic Carbonate on the Silicon Electrode

Zhuo Wang et al.

Summary: Silicon is a promising anode material with high storage capacity and excellent energy conversion rate. Understanding the interaction between silicon electrodes and electrolyte solutions at a molecular level is crucial for stable solid electrolyte interphase formation, but this has not been explored yet. In this study, femtosecond sum frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy was used to investigate the initial adsorption of various electrolyte molecules on the silicon anode surface. The findings provide insights into the instability of the solid electrolyte interphase formed on the silicon anode.

Boosting Charge Transport in a 2D/3D Perovskite Heterostructure by Selecting an Ordered 2D Perovskite as the Passivator

Chuanzhao Li et al.

Summary: We demonstrate that an ordered 2D perovskite can significantly enhance the photoelectric performance of 2D/3D perovskite heterostructures. By selectively fluorinating phenyl-ethyl ammonium (PEA) lead iodide to passivate 3D FA(0.8)Cs(0.2)PbI(3), we find that the 2D/3D perovskite heterostructures passivated by a higher ordered 2D perovskite exhibit lower Urbach energy, resulting in a remarkable increase in photoluminescence (PL) intensity, PL lifetime, charge-carrier mobilities (ϕμ), and carrier diffusion length (L-D).

Counterion Binding Dynamics of a Polyelectrolyte

Yu Shi et al.

Summary: The dynamics of adsorption and desorption of counterions on a polyelectrolyte chain in aqueous solution were studied at a single molecular level using fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) and dual-color fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (DC-FCS). The desorption rate was found to be higher than the adsorption rate, with the adsorption rate increasing linearly with the concentration of counterion probes. High salt concentrations promoted more adsorption, resulting in a less charged chain.
