Guest-Induced Multistep-to-One-Step Reversible Spin Transition with Enhanced Hysteresis in a 2D Hofmann Framework

Dibya Jyoti Mondal et al.

Summary: In this work, the authors demonstrate the experimental approach of tuning the spin-crossover (SCO) behavior in 2D Hofmann coordination polymers by controlling the spin-state cooperativity. The removal of solvent changes the spin-transition mechanism and enhances the hysteresis width. Structural analysis reveals changes in the crystal system, and the increased ligand-field strength and face-to-face interactions after desolvation are reflected in the highly cooperative SCO.

Inorganic Ferrocene Analogue [Fe(P4)2]2-

Zi-Chuan Wang et al.

Summary: A facile one-step method for the synthesis of the homoleptic iron complex [Fe(P-4)(2)](2-) is reported, using the Zintl-phase-type precursor KP dissolved in ethylenediamine. P-31 NMR analysis shows that P-4(2-) is generated only in the presence of 2,2,2-crypt. The yield of [Fe(P-4)(2)](2-) is determined by the amounts of cation-sequestering agents, the type of iron precursor, and their consuming ratio.

Chiral control of spin-crossover dynamics in Fe (II) complexes

Malte Oppermann et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates trapping of the high-spin state in iron-based spin-crossover complexes by controlling the chiral configuration. The high-spin-state decay is found to be accompanied by changes in optical activity, reflecting coupling to a symmetry-breaking torsional mode. Diastereoselective ion pairing suppresses vibrational population and increases the high-spin-state lifetime. These findings motivate the synthetic control of torsional modes in iron(II) complexes to manipulate their spin-crossover dynamics as a complementary approach.

Multiconfiguration Pair-Density Functional Theory Calculations of Iron(11) Porphyrin: Effects of Hybrid Pair-Density Functionals and Expanded RAS and DMRG Active Spaces on Spin-State Orderings

Gautam D. Stroscio et al.

Summary: Iron(II) porphyrins are important in enzymes and synthetic catalysts. This study investigates the effects of nonlocal exchange and larger active space on the spin-state ordering of FeP, using multiconfiguration pair-density functional theory. The results show that increasing lambda stabilizes the quintet relative to the triplets.

Impact of Counteranion on Reversible Spin-State Switching in a Series of Cobalt(II) Complexes Containing a Redox-Active Ethylenedioxythiophene-Based Terpyridine Ligand

Subrata Ghosh et al.

Summary: The self-assembly of a redox-active ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT)-terpyridine-based tridentate ligand and cobalt(II) unit with different counteranions has led to a series of new cobalt(II) complexes. The impact of various counteranions on stabilization and spin-state switching of the cobalt(II) center was explored. The results revealed that the non-covalent cation-anion interactions played a significant role in stabilizing the spin-state and the complexes exhibited reversible spin-state switching behavior.

The Chromium Dimer: Closing a Chapter of Quantum Chemistry

Henrik R. Larsson et al.

Summary: The study introduces a new ab initio simulation method to analyze the potential energy curve and vibrational spectrum of chromium dimer, achieving quantitative agreement with experimental results and providing a theoretical basis for future research on transition metal clusters with spectroscopic accuracy. The research results improve the vibrational assignment of earlier experimental data and offer a new perspective for quantitative quantum chemical modeling.

Multiconfiguration Pair-Density Functional Theory for Chromium(IV) Molecular Qubits

Arturo Sauza-de la Vega et al.

Summary: In this study, singlet-triplet gaps and zero-field splitting (ZFS) parameters in Cr(IV) aryl complexes were calculated using multiconfiguration pair density functional theory. The results showed that multireference methods performed better than Kohn-Sham density functional theory for singlet-triplet gaps and qualitatively well for ZFS parameters. The methodologies presented in this study can guide the prediction of ZFS parameters in molecular qubit candidates.
