Diselenide Dianion's Dual Powers: PdSe2 Polymorph Control and Pd3Se10 Superatomic Crystal Creation

Cullen T. Irvine et al.

Summary: This article introduces a method for selectively synthesizing different PdSe2 phases through the reaction between Na2Se2 and Na2PdCl4 using electrochemically precise reactions without surfactants. By altering the reactant molar ratios and time, a phase diagram was mapped out, and a previously unreported palladium selenide phase Pd3Se10 was discovered.

Aqueous Synthesis, Doping, and Processing of n-Type Ag2Se for High Thermoelectric Performance at Near-Room-Temperature

Si Yin Tee et al.

Summary: In this study, binary Ag2Se, composite Ag0:Ag2Se, and ternary Cu+:Ag2Se were successfully synthesized through an ambient aqueous-solution-based approach. The controllability over phases and compositions and the feasibility for large-scale production were demonstrated. Cu+ doping significantly improved the thermoelectric properties of n-type Ag2Se, achieving a ZT value of 0.9-1.2 over a temperature range of 300-393 K, which is the highest among wet chemistry methods reported.

Quantifying Turnover Dynamics of Selenoproteome by Isotopic Perturbation

Huan Tang et al.

Summary: In this paper, a chemical proteomic strategy called SETRIP was developed to quantitatively monitor the turnover dynamics of selenoproteins at the proteomic level. The half-lives of nine selenoproteins were accurately measured, ranging from 6 to 32 hours. The study provides a global portrait of dynamic changes in the selenoproteome and suggests the existence of hierarchy regulation in the turnover of selenoproteins.

Summary: Alkali pnictogen dichalcogenides-I-V-VI2 are promising semiconducting materials for energy conversion devices. However, the controlled synthesis and understanding of their structures are still underdeveloped. This study successfully synthesized a series of APnCh(2) materials using solution-phase chemistry, and controlled the degree of ordering through temperature manipulation.

Molecular Decomposition Routes of Diaryl Diselenide Precursors in Relation to the Phase Determination of Copper Selenides

Alexandra C. Koziel et al.

Summary: H-1 nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), Se-77 NMR, and powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) were used to monitor the thermal decomposition of diphenyl and dibenzyl diselenide precursors toward the synthesis of copper selenides. Copper was found to promote the decomposition of both precursors. The products and organic decomposition products were identified using these techniques.

Selenoproteome Expression Studied by Non-Radioactive Isotopic Selenium-Labeling in Human Cell Lines

Jordan Sonet et al.

Summary: Selenoproteins, which contain the rare amino acid selenocysteine with selenium atom, play crucial roles in cell homeostasis, antioxidant defense, and cell signaling in mammals. The expression of the selenoproteome, comprised of 25 selenoprotein genes, is tightly regulated by the selenium status of the body. The study presents an alternative strategy for characterizing selenoproteome regulation using radioactive Se-75 isotope and non-radioactive selenium isotopes.

A scalable broadband plasmonic cuprous telluride nanowire-based hybrid photothermal membrane for efficient solar vapor generation

Caiju Chen et al.

Summary: Researchers have developed a new hybrid photothermal membrane named bpCu(2-x)Te, which features efficient solar absorption for freshwater production through solar evaporation. The membrane has high porosity, hydrophilicity, and low thermal conductivity, allowing for a high water evaporation rate with excellent efficiency under solar irradiation. It can be used repeatedly without compromising its performance, demonstrating potential for scalable seawater purification and desalination in field applications.
