Mesoporous Semiconductive Bi2Se3 Films

Tomota Nagaura et al.

Summary: A robust platform for synthesizing mesoporous Bi2Se3 films with uniform pore sizes via electrodeposition has been demonstrated. The pore size can be precisely adjusted to 9 and 17 nm by controlling the length of the block copolymer. The introduction of porosity significantly enhances the tunneling current and conductivity of Bi2Se3 films, indicating the dependence of their properties on pore structure and surface area.

Metastable hexagonal close-packed palladium hydride in liquid cell TEM

Jaeyoung Hong et al.

Summary: Metastable phases, which are structures favored by kinetics, are widely found in nature. Crystals grown from high-energy precursors often initially take on metastable structures depending on conditions such as temperature, pressure, or crystal size. These metastable phases can have superior properties, making the discovery and synthesis of new metastable phases an exciting area for advancements in materials science.

Expeditious Electrochemical Synthesis of Mesoporous Chalcogenide Flakes: Mesoporous Cu2Se as a Potential High-Rate Anode for Sodium-Ion Battery

Tomota Nagaura et al.

Summary: The nanostructured copper selenide shows exceptional performance as thermoelectric, photo-thermal, and optical material. A simple one-step electrochemical method is proposed for synthesizing mesoporous chalcogenides, which exhibit better performance for electrochemical and catalytic applications. The mesoporous copper selenide also demonstrates superior and more stable capacity as a sodium ion battery anode, as well as excellent rate tolerance at different current densities.

Metastable Phase-Controlled Synthesis of Mesoporous Molybdenum Carbides for Efficient Alkaline Hydrogen Evolution

Du San Baek et al.

Summary: Transition metal carbides (TMCs) are considered as nonprecious metal electrocatalysts with Pt-like catalytic activity, showing great potential in electrochemical energy conversion reactions. This study explores the synthesis of mesoporous molybdenum carbides with controlled carbon overlayer thickness for efficient alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) electrocatalysis. It has been found that the choice of Mo precursor and nanospace-confined carburization are critical factors in forming mesoporous molybdenum carbides with a large catalytically active surface area. The thickness of the carbon overlayer on the surfaces of the molybdenum carbides can be controlled by carburization temperature and H-2 post annealing, resulting in enhanced alkaline HER activity.
