Inorganic Ferrocene Analogue [Fe(P4)2]2-

Zi-Chuan Wang et al.

Summary: A facile one-step method for the synthesis of the homoleptic iron complex [Fe(P-4)(2)](2-) is reported, using the Zintl-phase-type precursor KP dissolved in ethylenediamine. P-31 NMR analysis shows that P-4(2-) is generated only in the presence of 2,2,2-crypt. The yield of [Fe(P-4)(2)](2-) is determined by the amounts of cation-sequestering agents, the type of iron precursor, and their consuming ratio.

Isolation and electronic structures of derivatized manganocene, ferrocene and cobaltocene anions

Conrad A. P. Goodwin et al.

Summary: This study presents the isolation of a derivatized ferrocene anion in the solid state as part of a family of 3d metallocenates, revealing the electronic structures of these complexes. The unexpected high-spin S = 3/2 ground state of the 19e(-) derivatized ferrocene anion was characterized through physical techniques and ab initio calculations.

Distal conformational locks on ferrocene mechanophores guide reaction pathways for increased mechanochemical reactivity

Yudi Zhang et al.

Summary: Metallocenes are attractive mechanophores due to their stability in the absence of force but reactivity under tension. Covalently bridging the cyclopentadienyl ligands of ferrocenes in a polymer alters their mechanochemical reactivity, leading to faster dissociation through a peeling mechanism. Distal attachments can restrict dissociation mechanism to peeling, increasing dissociation rate constant by several orders of magnitude.

Enantioselective C-H Alkenylation of Ferrocenes with Alkynes by Half-Sandwich Scandium Catalyst

Shao-Jie Lou et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the highly enantioselective C-H alkenylation of quinoline- and pyridine-substituted ferrocenes with alkynes using a half-sandwich scandium catalyst. This method offers broad substrate scope, high enantioselectivity, and selectively affords a new family of planar-chiral ferrocenes bearing N/alkene functionalities. The use of a quinoline/alkene-functionalized ferrocene product as a chiral ligand for asymmetric catalysis is also showcased.

The Redox Journey of Iconic Ferrocene: Ferrocenium Dications and Ferrocenate Anions

Mrinalini G. Walawalkar et al.

Summary: The recent discoveries of dicationic and monoanionic ferrocene derivatives shed light on the impact of substituents on the C-5 ring and the selection of redox agents and solvent systems in preparing previously thought difficult synthetic targets. These oxidized and reduced forms of ferrocene are of interest to spectroscopists, magnetochemists, and theoreticians.
