The lamellar preparation of continuous porosity-graded Si3N4 ceramics without obvious interfaces for broadband radome application

Haoqian Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, porous Si3N4 ceramics with a continuous porosity gradient were successfully achieved through lamellar gel-casting, freeze-drying, and subsequent sintering process. The porosity-graded structure exhibited excellent thermal expansion matching performance at high temperatures, making it a potential candidate for radar dome design.

Comparison of the bio-tribological properties of UHMWPE-Chirulen® and PEEK-OPTIMA® articulating against ceramics: Implications for orthopedic implants

Shuai Yan et al.

Summary: The study found that under DPPC lubrication, PEEK exhibited better wear resistance than UHMWPE, and under high load and low frequency conditions, the friction coefficient of Si3N4/Chirulen(R) 1020 XPE was low. Additionally, the tribological performance of Si3N4 was superior to Al2O3 due to the formation of a protective SiO2 film on its surface in water.

In situ fabrication of continuously graded Si3N4 ceramics via DC field-assisted hot pressing

Jingkun Xu et al.

Summary: The effects of different DC electric fields (0-167 V/cm) on the liquid-phase hot pressing of Si3N4 ceramics were investigated in this study. It was found that the application of a DC field could promote the phase transformation of Si3N4 near the cathode while inhibiting it near the anode. Additionally, the migration of Mg2+ and Y3+ ions driven by the DC field was observed, but the graded phase transformation phenomenon was linked to the Peltier effect.

Surface modification of Si3N4 powder for hydrolysis control

Songmo Du et al.

Summary: The hydrolysis of Si3N4 powder was controlled by surface modification with Al(H2PO4)(3) and Mg(H2PO4)(2) with TEOS. The existence of Al(H2PO4)(3) and Mg(H2PO4)(2) catalyzed the hydrolysis of TEOS. The surface modification had no clear influence on the dielectric loss of Si3N4 powders. The surface modification agent forms a strong bonding with the surface of Si3N4 particles.

Preparation of porous SiC ceramics skeleton with low-cost and controllable gradient based on liquid crystal display 3D printing

Huan Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a gradient porous ceramic skeleton (GPCS) was prepared by combining a liquid crystal display (LCD) 3D printer with liquid silicon infiltration (LSI) technology. The experimental results showed that the optimal ceramic slurry for printing had ceramic powder accounting for 45% of the mass of photosensitive resin, and the photosensitive resin had a faster thermal decomposition rate in the range of 300-450 degrees C. The effects of LSI temperature on the composition, microstructure, and mechanical properties of the GPCS were also investigated.
