Nonlinear technique of prestressing spatial structures

Shna Jabar Abdulkarim et al.

Summary: This paper presents an efficient nonlinear numerical approach based on the force method for prestressing spatial nonlinear structures to the desired level. Two equations are derived for indicating the required amount of member alteration and prestressing level using Taylor's series and Pade approximation methods. The technique is validated based on three numerical examples, showing good agreement with compared methods. The new approach requires less effort and is more economical, while successfully obtaining member forces under lack of fit conditions for a double-layer space grid structure.

Comparison of different sensitivity matrices relating element elongations to structural response of pin-jointed structures

Yu Xue et al.

Summary: This paper theoretically proves the essential differences between different sensitivity matrices in structural control, particularly in considering geometrical stiffness. Numerical examples demonstrate that the sensitivity matrix considering geometrical stiffness provides more accurate computation of structural responses. While less accurate sensitivity matrices may meet engineering requirements in certain applications, they could lead to unacceptable errors in specific cases.

A unifying framework for form-finding and topology-finding of tensegrity structures

Yafeng Wang et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a novel computational framework for the form-finding and topology-finding of tensegrity structures based on rank-constrained linear matrix inequalities. By solving rank-constrained LMI problems, the positive semi-definiteness and rank deficiency condition of the force density matrix can be effectively managed, enabling modeling and optimization of tensegrity structures.
