Bridge frequency identification based on relative displacement of axle and contact point using tire pressure monitoring

Chengyin Liu et al.

Summary: The study proposes a two-stage framework to extract the bridge frequency (BF) using the tire pressure of a vehicle crossing it. The first step involves establishing and calibrating a tire pressure model, while the second step utilizes the model to identify BFs based on field measurements of the rear tire pressure change.

A data-driven approach for drive-by damage detection in bridges considering the influence of temperature change

Robert Corbally et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a new data-driven approach for drive-by monitoring of bridge condition using an Artificial Neural Network (ANN). The ANN is trained to predict bridge behavior based on acceleration measurements from a passing vehicle. The response at the tire-pavement contact point is inferred and used as the primary input to the ANN, along with vehicle speed. The proposed algorithm demonstrates improved performance in detecting bridge cracking at different speeds, pavement conditions, and temperature variations compared to traditional methods, making it a suitable approach for long term bridge condition monitoring.

Frequency extraction for bridges with rough surface by a moving test vehicle enhanced by a shaker

Y. B. Yang et al.

Summary: This paper addresses the response issues of vehicles moving over bridges and proposes a solution. By using the vehicle-bridge contact response to eliminate the vehicle's self frequency and using a shaker to enhance bridge vibration while reducing pavement roughness, the vehicle's response can be improved effectively.

A review of mobile sensing of bridges using moving vehicles: Progress to date, challenges and future trends

Abdollah Malekjafarian et al.

Summary: Sensors installed on moving vehicles have been extensively used for condition monitoring and structural assessment of bridges. These methods rely on measuring dynamic responses on passing vehicles to identify the bridge's dynamic characteristics and assess its structural condition. The critical advantage of these methods is the ability to monitor multiple bridges in a transport network at a relatively lower cost.

Nan Jin et al.

Summary: This study introduces a short-time stochastic subspace identification (ST-SSI) framework to estimate bridge frequencies by analyzing the dynamic response of a traversing vehicle. By utilizing dimensionless parameters, the VBI problem is simplified and the ST-SSI method is successfully applied to the time-varying VBI system.

Using a Single-DOF Test Vehicle to Simultaneously Retrieve the First Few Frequencies and Damping Ratios of the Bridge

Y. B. Yang et al.

Summary: Bridge damping ratios were extracted using a single-degree-of-freedom test vehicle for the first time in this study, with the use of variational mode decomposition and random-decrement technique. Closed-form solutions were validated for damped bridge and contact responses. The proposed method successfully identified frequencies and damping ratios under varying road conditions and noise levels.
