Topologically prone or cation compression restricted phase transition: An example of feldspar-related SrGe2B2O8

Liudmila Gorelova et al.

Summary: The stability and phase transformation processes of SrGe2B2O8 were investigated under extreme conditions. The compound demonstrated stability up to 900℃, but decomposed at higher temperatures. Under high-pressure conditions, SrGe2B2O8 underwent two phase transitions accompanied by the formation of B2O7 dimers and an increase in Ge coordination number. The observed behavior was consistent with the behavior of silicon in a similar compound.

Phase Transformations in Feldspar Group Minerals with Paracelsian Topology under High Temperature and High Pressure

L. A. Gorelova

Summary: This study focuses on the behavior of feldspars with paracelsian topology under high temperatures and pressures, revealing that they are stable up to at least 800℃. The research also discovers unusual structural units under extreme conditions, which can impact the concentration and transport processes of trace elements. These findings are significant for interpreting geochemical and geophysical data.

Order-disorder and ionic conductivity in calcium nitride-hydride

G. J. Irvine et al.

Summary: Recently, nitrogen-hydrogen compounds have been successfully used as co-catalysts for mild conditions ammonia synthesis. The material Ca2NH acts as a H-2 sink during the reaction, with hydrogen atoms from its lattice being incorporated into the ammonia product. Therefore, understanding the ionic transport and diffusion properties of the N-H co-catalyst is crucial for developing and improving such syntheses.

Temperature-Induced Phase Transition in a Feldspar-Related Compound BaZn2As2O8•H2O

Liudmila A. Gorelova et al.

Summary: The high-temperature behavior of BaAs2Zn2O8·H2O was studied using in situ single-crystal X-ray diffraction and hot stage Raman spectroscopy. The compound undergoes dehydration and forms BaAs2Zn2O8, which is stable up to 525 degrees C. The phase transition from BaAs2Zn2O8·H2O to BaAs2Zn2O8 is accompanied by a change in symmetry and is observed at different temperatures depending on the research method.

Thermal Expansion and Polymorphism of Slawsonite SrAl2Si2O8

Liudmila Gorelova et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the SrO7 polyhedron of slawsonite expands regularly with temperature, while the distribution of silicon and aluminum cations remains unchanged as temperature increases. Slawsonite exhibits high volume thermal expansion with anisotropy, and its crystal structure remains stable up to 1000 degrees C without phase transitions. The impact of Ca and Ba substitution for Sr and Al/Si ordering on natural MAl2Si2O8 polymorphism is discussed in the study.

Time-dependent photoluminescence patterns based on Cr3+-doped and co-doped Zn3Ga2Ge2 O10

Xuan Li et al.

Summary: This paper developed a novel time-dependent pattern based on persistent luminescence (PersL) by preparing materials with high-performance persistent luminescence property and creating photoluminescence patterns, such as flower-like, Chinese Taiji, and solar eclipse patterns. These patterns could potentially be used for information storage, security signs, and anti-counterfeiting.

Crystal Structure Evolution of Slawsonite SrAl2Si2O8 and Paracelsian BaAl2Si2O8 upon Compression and Decompression

Liudmila A. Gorelova et al.

Summary: The high-pressure behaviors of slawsonite and paracelsian were investigated, showing displacive phase transitions and forming new structures under certain pressures. Raman spectroscopy can be used to confirm these phase transitions and the high-pressure structures can be retained upon decompression. The change in size of the extra framework cation affects the phase transition pressure, but does not alter the transformation pathway.
