Investigation on the Rheological Properties and Microscopic Characteristics of Graphene and SBR Composite Modified Asphalt

Lijun Wang et al.

Summary: The influence of graphene (GR) and styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) composite incorporation on the performance of modified asphalt was investigated in this study, along with its compatibility and modification mechanism from a microscopic perspective. The results showed that the inclusion of graphene significantly improved the high-temperature rutting resistance of asphalt, reduced its temperature sensitivity, and improved its storage stability. However, its effect on the low-temperature performance of asphalt was relatively minimal. Microscopic experimental results revealed the formation of a stable structure at the interface between GR and SBR in the composite modified asphalt, leading to improved uniformity and stability of the asphalt binder.

Performance enhancement of bio-based rubber composites using epoxidized natural rubber for silica without carbon emissions and volatile organic compounds

Zixuan Wang et al.

Summary: The development of tires is moving towards being green, environment-friendly, and focused on protecting life and health. Conventional tires, made from synthetic rubber derived from nonrenewable petroleum resources, generate significant carbon emissions and volatile organic compounds in their production process. This study successfully prepared epoxidized natural rubber (ENR) with different degrees of epoxidation and blended it with natural rubber/silica composites to improve dispersion and overall performance. The results show that ENR can react with silica to form a strong chemical bond, enhancing dispersion and performance without carbon emissions or VOCs.

Preparation and mechanism analysis of non-contact respiratory sensor based on ZnO/RGO composites

Hongyan Zhang et al.

Summary: A humidity sensor based on zinc oxide and reduced graphene oxide composites has been fabricated for non-contact respiratory detection, showing improved performance compared to sensors without reduced graphene oxide. The addition of reduced graphene oxide enhances the sensor's responsivity, linearity, and hysteresis. The sensor achieves a resistance magnitude of 4.5 orders of magnitude with high response, low hysteresis rate, and fast response/recovery time in a wide range of relative humidity. The improved performance is explained by the reduction in chemical adsorption energy and enhancement in physical adsorption energy of water molecules due to the presence of reduced graphene oxide. The sensor has practical value in personal medical services and smart health electronic devices, as it has been successfully used for non-contact detection of respiration frequency.

Acrylamide-modified polyvinyl alcohol and combined with graphene oxide for low dielectric constant composite films

Pan Tian et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel structure optimization approach was proposed to develop a composite film with high transparency and low dielectric loss by designing a reaction between PVA and acrylamide. The introduction of acrylamide increased the strength of the film and the low dipole groups reduced its dielectric constant. Moreover, the addition of graphene oxide further enhanced the strength of the film. The obtained composite film showed superior tensile strength, dielectric constant, and dielectric loss compared to pure PVA and PVA/GO composite films reported in previous literature. It has great potential in the field of dielectric materials for high-frequency communication.
