Estimating Bidirectional Transitions and Identifying Predictors of Mild Cognitive Impairment

Yao Qin et al.

Summary: In this study, the trajectory of reversion from MCI to NC or near-NC and patterns of postreversion were explored. Participants who experienced reversion remained at increased risk for progression to MCI or dementia over the longer term and recurrent reversions were observed. Age, independence level, APOE, cognition, daily activity ability, depression, and neuropsychiatric symptoms were significant predictors of bidirectional transitions. These findings provide valuable insights for future research and proactive management plans.

Estimation of the global prevalence of dementia in 2019 and forecasted prevalence in 2050: an analysis for the Global Burden of Disease 2019

Emma Nichols et al.

Summary: With projected trends in population ageing and growth, the number of people with dementia is expected to increase. Understanding the distribution and magnitude of anticipated growth is crucial for public health planning and resource prioritization, with a focus on potentially modifiable risk factors.

Functional survival forests for multivariate longitudinal outcomes: Dynamic prediction of Alzheimer's disease progression

Jeffrey Lin et al.

Summary: The article introduces a non-parametric modeling framework called functional survival forests, which incorporates multivariate longitudinal data to enhance predictive performance of RSF. By extracting essential features of longitudinal outcomes and including them as predictors in the RSF model, this framework proves superior in capturing trends in both longitudinal outcomes and survival models, providing advantages over parametric approaches.

Summary: This study aimed to develop and validate radiomics models and multipredictor nomogram for predicting the time to progression from MCI to AD. Radiomic features were extracted from MR images and models were established using LASSO Cox regression, with high accuracy for individual TTP prediction achieved through a multipredictor nomogram.

Screening and predicting progression from high-risk mild cognitive impairment to Alzheimer's disease

Xiao-Yan Ge et al.

Summary: This study proposed a two-stage screening frame for high-risk MCI subjects, finding that ADAS-13 was more sensitive for filtering out high-risk individuals. The optimal model included a change rate of clinical assessments and three neuroimaging measurements, significantly associated with a net reclassification improvement (NRI) of 0.246 and integrated discrimination improvement (IDI) of 0.090. The ADAS-13 longitudinal models had the best discrimination performance.
