Porous core-shell B-doped silicon-carbon composites as electrode materials for lithium ion capacitors

Jing-Ting Su et al.

Summary: In this study, a promising approach for the development of anode materials with high capacities, rate capability, and cycling stability for lithium-ion capacitors (LICs) is proposed through the design of composite electrodes. The researchers successfully synthesized porous core-shell B-doped silicon-carbon spheres (B-Si@1RFC) of small sizes and high specific capacities, which are composited with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) porous structure to serve as an outstanding anode material for LICs. The LIC, assembled by coupling the B-Si@1RFC/rGO anode with a glucose-derived carbon nanosphere cathode, demonstrates high energy density, excellent cycling stability, and good energy density retention even at high power densities.

Impact of Full Prelithiation of Si-Based Anodes on the Rate and Cycle Performance of Li-Ion Capacitors

Takuya Eguchi et al.

Summary: The impact of full prelithiation on the rate and cycle performance of a Si-based Li-ion capacitor was studied. It was found that the cell with 100% prelithiation maintained a higher energy density at a higher power density compared to the cell with 87% prelithiation.

Surface chemistry of LiFePO4 cathode material as unraveled by HRTEM and XPS

Junwei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the evolution and components of the SEI layer on the LiFePO4 cathode surface in different states using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results indicate that the SEI layer is mainly formed during the first cycle and can be divided into two parts with different compositions. This research provides insight into the formation process of the SEI layer and its significance in influencing the electrochemical performance.
