A Novel Composite of Hemp Fiber and Alginate Hydrogel for Wound Dressings

Faheem Ahmad et al.

Summary: An alginate hydrogel hemp nonwoven composite was developed for wound dressings. The composite was produced using the sol-gel technique, combining the anti-inflammation properties of hemp with the wound healing properties of alginate hydrogel. The concentration of alginate was found to have a greater impact on the performance of the composite compared to the nonwoven GSM.

Synthesis and characterization of natural fibers reinforced alginate hydrogel fibers loaded with diclofenac sodium for wound dressings

Farooq Azam et al.

Summary: This study investigates the properties of natural fiber-reinforced composite hydrogel fibers for wound dressing application. Kapok and hemp fibers were used as reinforcements to improve the strength of the hydrogel fibers. The prepared composite hydrogel fibers were characterized using FTIR, SEM, and DSC. The results showed that the reinforcement of the fibers enhanced their strength, with hemp fibers exhibiting better mechanical properties.

Investigation of Mechanical and Dynamic Mechanical Properties of Sisal, Jute and Banana Peduncle Fibre Composite Materials

Praveen Nagarajan Durai et al.

Summary: In this research, blend ratios of sisal, jute, and banana peduncle fibre were used to reinforce nonwoven textiles for composite manufacturing. Different mechanical properties were analyzed according to ASTM standards, and the results showed that a combination of 75% jute and 25% banana peduncle fibre significantly improved the composite material's mechanical and functional properties. The proper fibre blending ensured higher matrix resin reinforcement, interlaminar strength, and compactness in the structure. SEM analysis revealed internal fracture in the composite specimen.

Mechanical and in-vitro studies of biodegradable chitosan/cissus quadrangularis coated flax sutures for anterior cruciate ligaments repair

B. Senthilkumar et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanical and In Vitro properties of chitosan/cissus quadrangularis coated braided flax sutures for repairing anterior cruciate ligaments. The results show that the chitosan/quadrangularis extract coating improves the performance of the biocomposite suture, with higher ultimate tensile stress, stiffness, and knot pull strength. The CHCQ11 and CHCQ23 samples, which have a higher proportion of cissus quadrangularis, exhibit the best functional performance.

The Role and Applications of Aerogels in Textiles

Farooq Azam et al.

Summary: Textiles with porous structures are important for comfort, thermal insulation, and filtration capabilities. Aerogels, with their ultrahigh porosity and good thermal insulation properties, have potential as insulation materials. However, pure aerogels are brittle and have poor mechanical properties. Textile reinforced aerogel composites can provide flexibility and strength, while imparting a nanoporous structure to textiles. This review discusses techniques for producing porous structures in textiles and synthesizing textile reinforced aerogel composites for filtration and thermal insulation applications.

Process Optimization of Antimicrobial Treatment on Tencel Knit Fabrics Using Chitosan Biopolymer

B. Senthil Kumar et al.

Summary: The antimicrobial properties of Tencel fabrics were analyzed using experimental design, showing that yarn count and loop length significantly impact the inhibition zone, while Chitosan concentration has minimal influence. Regression models were developed to verify optimized process parameters, and SEM and FTIR analysis confirmed coating effectiveness. Contour graph analysis was also conducted to understand the influencing pattern of process parameters on response.
