Thermal rearrangement in thermal cascade reaction polymers via ortho-carbonate ester functionalization of polyimides and their gas separation performance

David Meis et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a method to enhance the permeability of Thermal Rearrangement Polymers at lower annealing temperatures by tailoring the thermally triggered decomposition and reaction cascade. The size and branching of the carbonate ester connected alkyl group were found to affect the film properties and gas separation performance. The ethyl carbonate ester (ECO3PI-1) polymer showed attractive membrane material properties with an ideal selectivity of CO2/CH4 above 30 after aging.

Fine-tuned thermally cross-linkable 6FDA-based polyimide membranes for aggressive natural gas separation

Zhongyun Liu et al.

Summary: Thermally cross-linkable 6FDA-based polyimides containing carboxyl groups were synthesized and cross-linked to dense films via decarboxylation-induced thermal crosslinking. The content of 3,5-diaminobenzoic acid significantly affected the structure evolution during the crosslinking process. These materials provide attractive gas separation performance and plasticization resistance, making them a versatile platform for various aggressive natural gas feeds encountered in practice.

Effect of thermal annealing on gas separation performance and aggregation structures of block polyimide membranes

Yuxuan Feng et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of thermal annealing on gas separation performance of two 6FDA-DETDA/DMMDA block polyimide membranes with different block lengths at three temperatures. The results showed that the 350 degrees C annealing significantly enhanced the gas separation performance of the membranes.

Synthesis and characterization of 6FDA/3,5-diamino-2,4,6-trimethylben-zenesulfonic acid-derived polyimide for gas separation applications

Mahmoud A. Abdulhamid et al.

Summary: A sulfonic acid-functionalized trimethyl-substituted polyimide showed lower gas permeability and higher gas pair selectivity due to higher diffusion selectivity and strong hydrogen bonding induced by -SO3H functionalization. Competitive sorption effects and CO2-induced polymer matrix plasticization in gas mixture systems reduced the polymer selectivity.

Synthesis and characterization of amide-bridged colorless polyimide films with low CTE and high optical performance for flexible OLED displays

Zhenghui Yang et al.

Summary: Three novel dianhydride monomers with amide groups were synthesized and polymerized to produce colorless polyimides with excellent optical performance, thermal stability, film ductility, and solution-processability. One of the polyimides exhibited ultra-low thermal expansion coefficient, high T-g value, and large elongation at break due to its rigid-rod backbone and hydrogen bonding between molecular chains. The incorporation of bulky trifluoromethyl and cyclohexyl groups resulted in high optical transmittance, low haze, and low yellow index, indicating potential application in flexible OLED displays.
