Synthesis and gas permeation of polynorbornene by dinuclear α-diimine Ni-based catalysts: Experimental and quantum chemistry modeling

Seyed Emadodin Shakeri et al.

Summary: In this work, polynorbornene (PNB) was successfully synthesized via a dual-core catalyst and applied in gas membrane applications. The microstructure and physical properties of PNB were evaluated, showing a dense and porous microstructure. The results also indicated improvements in molecular weight and film-ability of the polymer, with a molecular weight of over 9 x 10(5) g/mol obtained. The permeability values against CO2 and CH4 were comparable to those previously reported, and a selectivity of 12.2 was achieved. DFT-D simulation results showed a stronger tendency of O-2 molecules to C7H12 and better capability to adsorb onto C7H12.
